Chapter 27 - 23

The proposal was opposed by majority of the Constituent Assembly, atleast for the division of states.

"We should not make states based on regionalism and language. It will weaken the unity of our country."

This was the sentiment majority of the people in the parliament shared.

So, while East and West Bengal were re-joined to make Bengal again, the rest of the provinces remained as it is.

Everyone agreed on joining back Bengal, and it got renamed to Bangal.

"Alright. We will discuss about this after we have elections and real government is formed.

In my opinion, this is the ideal way to ensure unity. We have so many languages that it will be an administrative nightmare. I was thinking of each state having two administrative languages."

I said my thoughts.

Next, the topic of shifting the capital from New Delhi to Nagpur.

"There are various reasons why I think we should shift the capital, and why Nagpur is the best place to be the capital.

First of all, Delhi, or Indraprastha as its ancient name, has been capital of Pandavas during Mahabharat, a time of loose morals and violence, then it became prominent in Medival period with influence of Delhi Sultanate, Mughals, which were pretty barbaric aside from Dara Shikoh who sadly got brutally murdered, and then the capital of British.

Let's forget the symbolism. Delhi is an earthquake prone zone. It has extreme heat, extreme cold, and extreme rain.

It is placed in the northern region of India."

I pointed at the globe.

"Nagpur, on the other hand, lies very near to the centre of India. It will be more accessible from all parts of the country.

It has warm climate like Delhi, but it doesn't have extreme cold. The rain is also decent.

While there are rivers, but aren't as mighty as Yamuna, the water source is good, and it will become a city of lakes and rain water harvesting with proper planning.

Moreover, we can't keep using colonial buildings for long. The Parliament itself wouldn't be able to house everyone properly. We need governing buildings that reflect our culture and values.

Of course, we wouldn't shift the capital right now. We can't waste money in these precious times.

Instead, we will establish all new Central offices in Nagpur. Like departments of city planning, and such that we will be building.

We should rethink about Nagpur as the capital in 1960."

The decision passed without resistance.

Moreover, the Viceroy Palace became Pradhan Mantri Bhavan, and Red Fort became Rashtrapati Bhavan.

The concept of SuperCities passed really comfortably for all the 18 proposed cities. All UTs also passed.

Tomorrow, we will discuss about the division of power between center and state, but me pulling out a proposed map for states of India put things into motion.

I sent Sardar Patel to Nagaland, the place which had one of the most separatists in my previous world. I sent him with a letter promising that the ban on beef, alcohol and pork will depend on the states themselves. They can ban it or not ban it.

Along with a letter promising creation of state of Nagaland if Congress wins.

Honestly, I don't know much about why. But I have some guesses.

Missionaries, tribalism, and most importantly, ambitious stupid leaders.

Since I am directly suggesting a state of Nagaland instead of the years of struggle, the separatist movements should be considerably less.

But, I will need to apply the Singapore model in many North-eastern states, like Nagaland and Manipur. Forcing tribes to live with each other instead of forming ghettos.

In fact, many regions will need different types of Singapore model according to different needs.

After the Constituent Assembly's session ended, I started looking at the basic intelligence reports of Burma.

Burma has just gotten independence on 4th January this year.

The Father of Nation of Burma, Aung San, who promised equal rights and more self governance to different tribes, was assassinated last year. Burma will go through military rule and a lot of chaos, Civil War, and a lot if things follow the same history for Burma.

Burma was colonised in 1885, and separate from British India in 1937. The decision was opposed by 2/3rd majority, but it was still separated.

But, there were a lot of anti-India riots, and many Indians fled from Burma during Japanese occupation.

Would Burma becoming a part of India be beneficial? Yes. Afterall, bigger the area, the better it is. There will be direct connectivity with South East Asia.

But, it wouldn't really be feasible right now. Stabilizing North East is hard enough as it is.

Just forming an economic system to connect Burma and South East Asia will be enough.

Moreover, try to take Burma will be expansionist, and USA will become more cautious.

The Indian Ocean islands are much more important than Burma.

We just have to make sure that weapons, separatists and drugs don't enter India through Burma.

Why can't things be as simple as with Nepal and Bhutan? Free movement like EU with other countries in the neighborhood will be really difficult.

Anyway, I sent the proposal for joining UAO to Burma, and discussing the currency pegging. Burmese currency was pegged to Indian rupees, so we have to convince Burma to adopt pegging its currency to Dhan.
