"H-how did you know I was here?" My breath caught the second Nick appeared in front of me. My heart stuttered—half from shock, half from relief. It was as if he had been pulled straight to me, like he could sense I needed him most in this moment.
Happiness rushed through me, but worry lingered like a shadow. I didn't want him to know what happened between me and his mother. Not now. Not while my mind was still in chaos. But the way he looked at me… the way his words cut through the air… it felt like he already knew.
"It doesn't matter how," he said, voice low but steady, every syllable grounding me. "What matters is I'm here now. Tell me—what did Violet say to you?" he said while wiping my tears with his bare hands.
