The noise downstairs woke up both Georgia and Nick from their sleep. Georgia blinked against the dim light, reaching for her phone on the nightstand. Six a.m.—far too early for such chaos.
*BANG!*
She flinched at the sound, her pulse spiking. "What the hell was that?" she whispered, already swinging her legs off the bed. She slipped into her warm cotton robe, tying it hastily around her waist.
"Where are you going?" Nick's voice was rough with sleep, but his eyes, once they found her, sharpened with alertness.
"It's unusually loud downstairs. I'm going to check," she said, already reaching for the door handle.
Nick was on his feet in an instant, pulling a shirt over his broad shoulders. "Not without me."
