Chapter 26 - The Red Portal Planet

[User: Erin Heley]

[Race: Halfling]

[Level 3]

[170/400 EXP]

[HP 25/25]

[Strength: 20]

[Agility: 20]

[Stamina: 20]

Erin was teleported a few inches off the ground, and landed on her belly. She got up and dusted a few dried leaves off of her body. Erin grabbed her sword and looked around. It was then she realized she was in a dark forest with no light whatsoever. She was able to see in the dark just fine, but the real issue was where she was.

The world was cold, quiet, with only the littlest bit of light coming from the stars and its two moons. It was also chilly with the wind rustling the trees around her.

Erin wasn't quite sure what to feel. She just risked her life to save Quinn, someone whom she didn't exactly have the best relationship with. The two had argued, bickered, and they didn't even see eye to eye on a lot of things, and yet… she didn't regret it.

She was about to send a message to him saying that she was still alive, however, something else happened.

Erin suddenly heard rustling leaves behind her. Turning around, she held her sword tightly. Erin saw a porcelain white figure in the distance between the numerous trees.

Erin squinted her eyes, trying to figure out who it was. Maybe it was another human?

[Inspect]

[Name: Palewalker]

[Intermediate Tier beast]

[HP ???]

The palewalker was indeed pale, and looked almost human but wrong. Its arms and legs were long but were black like as if they were dipped in ink. Its face had large yellow eyes and a proboscis instead of a human mouth. It's claws only had 3 fingers and the same could be said for its legs.

She froze at that moment, not even breathing.

There were times when she had helped her parents and their team take out beasts from the planet they were trying to colonize. They had even allowed her to help against a few intermediate tiers, but that was different from now. Erin was alone and without an ability. There were no doctors around with healing abilities, there was no one there to act as support. Erin was completely and utterly alone.

While Erin was in shock, the palewalker took notice of her. It went down to its fours and started crawling like a spider at speeds faster than what Erin expected. It jumped up and she narrowly managed to stab into it. It clawed at her, scratching her face and arms, drawing blood.

[-8 HP]

[17/25 HP]

Every part of her shook, but she had to snap out of it. It was because she was alone that she had to take care of herself.

She slammed her sword down, and yanked it out. While the beast was recoiling from the pain, she flash stepped around it. The palewalker was turning around, and sliced at her with its long claws, but she dug her sword into its neck. Black blood gushed out of its wound.

[-5 HP]

[12/25 HP]

The palewalker's proboscis suddenly shot into Erin's arm, and she felt it drink her. With a free hand, she flung a bloodswipe at it, cutting the proboscis in half.

[-4 HP]

[8/25 HP]

The beast let out a loud screech, which caused Erin to wince. The ear splitting pain hurt her brain, but she had to bear it. She forced the sword to dig deeper into the palewalker's neck, and cut it in half. The body fell to the ground and so did Erin.

She was breathing heavily, but that loud screech meant she couldn't stay for long. Looking at the beast, there was one last thing she could do and it was to grab its crystal. Using her sword, she carved it out, but got a prompt about it in her system.

[Would you like to store the crystal in your system storage?]

[Yes]

[No]

As much as she would've liked to look at the new changes to the game system, or her increased levels, there were more pressing matters, and she just selected yes. The crystal then disappeared from her hand.

She looked up at the trees and climbed up to the nearest one. As she was above the thick foliage, she was able to see an abandoned city in the distance. If there was a way for her to get out of here, then that would've had to be it.

Erin jumped down and ran towards the city.

Fex had been here on this planet once before, it was the place where he was meant to have completed his test. Of course, he ended up cheating by hiring someone else to do it. He kinda regretted that now.

He was at the entrance of an abandoned city. The walls were crumbling, and the buildings themselves weren't much better.

He jumped on top of a single storied building, and looked around to see if he could see or smell Erin. However, the way human portals worked were far different than the ones he was used to. They had set the teleporter to randomly locate him within a set area for some reason, so she wasn't nearby.

Fex tried to recall what that one human teacher told him about red portal planets, and it had something to do with teleportation distances. Was it a 10 mile radius? 20 miles? He didn't think to remember since it didn't seem important at the time.

'I should find that one girl soon,' Fex thought, 'I'd have a better chance of surviving if I did.'

Suddenly, he heard a screech from a distance. Looking around, he wasn't able to spot the source of it, up until he craned his neck to the sky. He saw a familiar beast that he nearly died to once before.

There it was, a deathbat in the sky flying in the direction of the brief sound. His heart sank seeing it again. His only grace was that the beast was far in the distance and was moving away from him.

Fex slowly climbed his way off of the building, keeping a close eye on it. The deathbat flew towards the forest, away from the city.

He let out a sigh of relief.

'Why'd I have to say all of that about how I wouldn't die here?' Fex internally cursed to himself.

The good news was that since he was familiar with this planet, he could very likely find a teleporter back to where he originally came from. The other problem was that he didn't know where those teleporters were since he had never seen these ruins before.

There would also be the consequences afterwards if he did use the vampire teleporters. He didn't exactly tell his family where he was going, and they probably wouldn't like him coming back without something to show for it.

As Fex walked deeper into the decrepit broken down streets of this old human settlement, he heard scuttering in the distance. It didn't sound like it came from a human.

Something fast scurried in-between the buildings. Fex went to the wall of the nearest structure and had his back to it. He listened intently to the sounds it made. If this was the deathbat…

A stack of ruined crates shook, and a large rodent-like beast jumped out at him. It had black fur, muscular arms and yet a rather thin torso. The beast's claws were out, but Fex jumped to the side, avoiding it.

He shot string at the rat-like beast, tying its arm up, and yanked it into the air, slamming it into the ground

The beast struggled in its restraint, and was nibbling at the string, almost free. That was when Fex rushed over to deliver a blood swipe to its neck, killing it.

Fex was glad to have gotten a refill on blood right before he made the grand mistake of returning here, so it really wasn't an issue if he used a few blood skills here and there. The problem was that Erin seemed to be quite the inexperienced vampire, not having even the most basic of vampire equipment. She was going to be needing the blood in his flask. It was pretty much all they had to feed off of.

He heard more scuttering as he looked at the beast he just killed, turning around, he saw more beasts of the same type in a herd.

"Just my luck…" Fex bitterly whispered to himself as he took out several strings and whipped them about.
