The Morrison Holdings boardroom felt like stepping into my biological father's legacy made real. I sat across from Richard Morrison - the current CEO, not the fraudster who'd tried to steal my inheritance - reviewing acquisition documents that would bring another piece of my family's business history into the Cross-Sterling empire.
"Ms. Cross," Richard said with obvious satisfaction, "I can't think of anyone better suited to carry on the Morrison Holdings tradition than James Morrison's daughter."
The words hit harder than they should have. This Richard Morrison had known my biological father, had worked alongside him before the car accident that had changed everything. Now he was selling me the company they'd built together.
"Tell me about my father's vision for Morrison Holdings," I said, though emotions were making it difficult to focus on business negotiations.
