Chapter 8 - Wolves and Bats

"Lily, transform quickly!"

This was the only solution Kevin could think of at the moment. The familiar bloody smell and cold sensation had reappeared, and he knew that as an ordinary human, he could never compete with the "monster" in front of him who resembled a human but was actually an alien species. But after shouting those words, he didn't have much hope either: he was less than two meters away from the "girl" in front of him!

A gust of wind came from behind, and Kevin knew it was Lily, who had transformed and was rushing over to rescue him. At the same time, Kevin also immediately pushed off with his feet, preparing to jump to the side, so that the werewolf and the suspected vampire would face each other head-on, and he would be safe!

But he overestimated his reaction speed or underestimated the combat power of the "alien species". Almost as soon as he had the idea to dodge, the black-haired girl with straight hair in front of him had reached out with movements far faster than a human's reaction speed. She grabbed Kevin's arm and pulled him behind her with such brute force that it almost felt like his arm would be broken. She also lowered her voice, which was very pleasant to listen to, and shouted, "Watch out!"

Kevin was stunned for a moment when he was thrown aside: was it this dangerous creature who had just said "Watch out"?

At this time, Lily finally arrived at the doorway half a step behind. Kevin despairingly saw that the werewolf girl, who seemed to have a screw loose, had neither transformed nor picked up a weapon. She was still dressed in her cool and lively homewear, with her hair not turned white and her ears not sticking out. She hopped to the doorway and happily shouted, "Landlord, landlord, I'm here! Is it a delivery?"

Kevin let out an almost tragic roar in his heart that almost echoed through the heavens: this idiot!!! There's absolutely no understanding between us!!!

Lily's idiotic behavior made Kevin completely give up on escaping from the vampire. Although Lily immediately realized what was happening when she saw the strange black-haired girl in front of her, transformed within a second, and picked up two bricks from the doorway to prepare for battle, he still felt hopeless: he shouldn't have pinned his hopes on this werewolf with a screw loose since last night! He probably would have been more reliable if he had gone to the kitchen and hung a couple of garlic cloves around his neck!

Of course, he would find out later that garlic wouldn't work on a certain vampire either.

When Lily saw that her landlord had been pulled over by the enemy, a flash of frustration appeared on her face, but she still tightened her grip on the bricks in her hand and let out a demonstration -like low growl from her throat: "Vampire... It's daytime now. You couldn't beat me at night, and you're even less of a match for me during the day! Give my landlord back and I'll spare your life!"

The black-haired girl with straight hair, whose identity had already been confirmed as a vampire, showed no fear at all. She stood between Kevin and Lily, with her right hand extended in front of her in a defensive stance. Her sharp nails slowly elongated, and a chill and bloody smell began to swirl around her body. Her left hand, however, silently moved behind her back and waved vigorously twice under Kevin's puzzled gaze, as if... urging Kevin to leave quickly?

"Werewolves, when did beasts start pretending to blend in with humans in the city?" The vampire girl's voice was cold and contemptuous. Although it carried a sense of weakness for some reason, her disdain for Lily in her tone was very obvious (even though she had been hit by the werewolf in front of her with two bricks last night). "Isn't catching rabbits in the wilderness your job?"

"Hmph!" Lily snorted in anger. "Stupid vampire, you'll never guess that I can't catch rabbits at all!"

Kevin thought to himself at that moment that he might as well just bang his head against the wall and die rather than let this brain-dead werewolf have a hard time. This idiot, idiot, idiot!

Even the usually calm vampire girl was taken aback by Lily's unconventional way of speaking. She almost burst out laughing, but then she waved her left hand, which was behind her back, with force. At the same time, Kevin heard a voice directly in his ear: "Human, you run first. I'll hold off this werewolf... Even though it's daytime, I can still hold her off without a problem!"

Kevin: "...What?"

Lily was finally not being idiotic for once at this moment. She noticed that the vampire had been distracted for a split second, so she immediately let out a low growl and charged forward, waving her brick. She didn't throw it hastily, probably worried about hitting her landlord who was close by.

"Die, winged rat!"

The vampire girl also fearlessly met her head-on. With a wave of her hand, a faint red scar condensed in the air, and her sharp nails, which had grown to more than ten centimeters long, stabbed towards Lily's chest like a cluster of small daggers. "Die, beast that only catches rabbits!"

"Stupid vampire! I told you I can't catch rabbits at all!"

"Don't think you can distract me again with the same trick. The same move won't work twice on a vampire!"

In the blink of an eye, the two unconventional creatures had entangled themselves in a fight. Lily, like a silver glow, dashed left and right at the entrance of the rental apartment, desperately trying to reach Kevin. And that mysterious vampire girl, even in the daytime, did not lose much in speed. She turned into a black blur, with red scars and claw attacks dancing wildly, always managing to压制 Lily, who was about to break through. Lily's roars and the vampire girl's commands echoed almost simultaneously from a dozen different locations, which was completely beyond the reaction speed of the human eye and ear!

But Kevin had recovered from his initial shock. Although he was still unsure of the truth, he knew that he couldn't let them continue fighting. Needless to say... He was worried that someone might see this bizarre scene!

No matter how remote they lived, there were still people around. It was already morning, and the few residents on this street could come out at any time. The commotion of Lily and the vampire girl fighting was not small, and if anyone saw it, something bad would definitely happen—Lily might really be captured by the Chinese Academy of Sciences, sliced up, and then served in the cafeteria to taste its saltiness! Kevin fully believed in the situation of this big foodie country!

Seeing the gate at the end of the street slowly being pushed open, Kevin was anxious and shouted at the top of his lungs, "Stop! Don't fight!"

His shout was so loud that Kevin could almost imagine being surrounded by the old folks on the next street for half a day, being asked if he had suffered domestic violence, a few days later when he went out. But his shout was indeed effective: The two storms formed by Lily and the vampire girl immediately came to a halt. They both looked at Kevin in confusion and then quickly glared at their opponents again.

Lily still had a combative expression on her face, as if the recent battle was just a warm-up. The vampire girl, however, seemed to have expended a lot of energy. She was panting, and her face was flushed with an abnormal redness. It seemed that engaging in a closely matched hand-to-hand battle with a werewolf in the sunlight was not that easy either. However, they had one thing in common: Even after such an intense battle, neither of them had broken a sweat.

The vampire girl's personal air conditioner was freaking cold.

"You might have a misunderstanding!" Seeing the way the two glared at each other, Kevin knew they might fight again at any moment. So he quickly stepped between them (of course, leaning slightly towards Lily), "I have to confirm one thing first: This... vampire girl, you didn't actually plan to kill me, did you?"

As soon as he said this, Kevin felt that it sounded weird, but at this moment, he couldn't afford to be too picky with his words. He sensed that there was definitely a huge misunderstanding between the werewolf and the vampire - pointing to a shitty possibility.

Sure enough, the vampire girl immediately stared wide-eyed, guarding against Lily while quickly glancing at Kevin, "I wanted to save you!"

Before Kevin could speak, Lily jumped out, "Who are you kidding! You want to suck the landlord's blood! I've seen it on TV. None of you vampires are good!"

Kevin suddenly realized something: Why did this werewolf get a lot of her knowledge from TV? Was this her first time seeing a vampire?

"Wasn't it you who kidnapped this human first!" The vampire girl's thin eyes narrowed, carrying a killer instinct, "Kidnapping a human and forcing him to help you conceal your identity so that you can live in human towns. Not many of you werewolves have good brains. This method has been used for hundreds of years and hasn't changed yet? No wonder you're almost extinct."

Then Lily and the vampire girl continued to glare at each other, but it seemed that their confidence was starting to waver a bit.

Kevin was sandwiched between the two and heard the gist of it. Finally, he slapped his forehead, "Ugh, what a mess... Don't fight first. Let's go home and talk about it!
