Chapter 41 - The Prophet's Soul

A Max clone was walking through a dark hallway. It was the one bearing the name White One. The only reason he was walking through the hallway in the dark was for the ominous effect.

He was muttering something. Something about a new god appearing. "Ten more minutes…" His voice was hoarse, as if he had been screaming and talking for hours without end. His fingernails were looking disgusting, he had been chewing on them endlessly.

"The prophet is gone, the goddess of light must be disgusted with his weakness… no, our weakness!" His face was filled with anger at the deeds of the prophet, but also with disgust because he, White One, had allowed these misdeeds to happen. "I must do something! I have to pay for his sin of weakness…" An idea dawned on him, "Yes! He must die, by my hand nonetheless. That way we both will repent."

He hurried out of the hallway, ending his muttering and his try to appear ominous and dangerous. "Off I go." He chuckled.

On the main floor were over a hundred-thousand Lukas and Max clones. They had all come together for two easy reasons, 9 minutes ago there was an announcement, a new update would happen in a few days and since details only appeared on the bridge, they had to wait for the Captain to tell them the details, and in less than a little over 2 minutes, they would reach the destination of their journey.

Below the balcony the Captain often used for announcement on whose everybody's gazes were gathered, was a second, less used, balcony. On that second balcony, 11 of the 12 higher priests.

Light, the one that ranks the highest among the higher priests, whispered to the others, having counted their own numbers: "Where is White One?"

The other high priests of the church of delight looked around, uncomfortable.

Light sighed. He furrowed his brow before stepping closer towards the railing of the balcony. His voice boomed through the giant chamber which was the main floor: "Survivors and hopeful ones! Open your ears and your hearts to my message!" He lifted his arms high above himself, "Soon, we will reach the one who has saved us, our goddess. Captain Teddy has returned to her home and is calling for us. And we listen!"

First, murmurs of confusion went through the ginormous crowd, then, the crowd started to remember back to the day the Geddos Alliance attacked. Remembering Captain Teddy, they erupted into cheers, their minds clouded by her cuteness, not even one Lukas clone thinking about the possible danger this journey could pose anymore.

Light glanced down at the cheering crowd and a grin spread across his lips. "Once we have found her, we shall properly greet her, spreading our love for her across all citadels." He lowered his arms, "But before this journey is over, we, the high priests, will bring you the prophet, chosen by Captain Teddy and killer of the devourer of light."

Hearing the last few words sent a chill through all their spines and the cheering vanished.

White One was standing behind the door, staring at the 11 high priests while Light was speaking. He was twirling an orb in his hand nervously. "Any second now." He muttered.

One of the high priests—the one furthest back in the crowd—noticed his muttering and turned to face him. "You're late." He told White One with a whisper.

"Had to do—" He glanced down onto the orb in his hand, "—something…" He highered his glance back towards the priest in front of him and met his eyes. "Any minute until we can finally meet with the goddess, Gray. I just acquired another sacrifice for her."

Light continued to speak and White One fell silent, waiting for him to finish. "Now we shall introduce to you, the prophet!" He said loudly, believing the noise White One made was made by the prophet.

White One stepped forward, quickly covering his high priest robe with a make-shift prophet robe. He ripped off a sheet of fake skin from his forehead as he rushed past, revealing the symbol of the prophet on his forehead.

"It is so nice to finally see all of you look up to me like this, awaiting my words." White One started to grin, "I don't have a lot to say to you all as I expected us to meet Captain Teddy first, but I want to say one thing at least." White One lifted his hands formed into a bowl holding up the white orb he came onto the balcony with. Its glow seemed even more intense than it actually was as everyone's gazes were gathered on it.

"What is that?" Light asked in awe, his gaze resting on the orb as well, hypnotized by its glow.

"This is my gift for the goddess, the prophet's soul!" He said, his face contorting and turning into something more psychopathic.

The faces of the high priests turned grim: "What?" All 11 of the high priests threw their robes off of their shoulders to reveal their ceremonial swords and various other weapons.

"Yes! I've killed the prophet and reaped his soul as an offering to the goddess." He was so happy about killing the prophet, because he was the first person whose soul appeared after they died. "This orb is proof of his demise and proof that Captain Teddy wanted him dead, otherwise, why should I have been able to do this?"

The 11 high priests lowered their guard and started to look at each other, uncertain and nervous. Should they attack? Retaliate? Was he… was he right in his assumption that the goddess wanted the prophet to die?

Light sighed and relaxed the grip he had on his weapon.

The citadel shook as they abruptly stopped, having reached their destination and having hit a satellite as well.

Within seconds, on the main floor everybody is grouped up in, a ginormous screen appears. The super citadel was calling them. Of course they accepted.

"Greetings."
