The sword pushed into his neck, and he winced in pain, feeling the sharp sting and the warmth sliding down his skin.
He was bleeding.
"Ah…" his voice cracked, pain flaring through him as he stared at his blood trailing down the sword.
"I didn't do it!" he yelled, the words tumbling out in panic. "I didn't… please, I didn't do it!" His heartbeat drowned out everything for a moment.
Why was this pinned on him? All the blame was suddenly being shoved onto his head when he had been the one who helped the students out of the world.
His knees trembled and his palms stung against the old floor. "It wasn't me," he choked out again. "It was Thane… I mean, Zhao, because it was he who pretended to be the prince."
Screams and noise erupted from the hall instantly.
"You liar!" someone shouted and moved forward, pointing a finger toward Ryn. One look at him, and the symbol of Erolona on his robe showed that he was from Erolona — perhaps an envoy.
