Chapter 50 - Electric

He took her straight to St. Mungo's, and it didn't take long for his father to meet him there. They both listened in horror as the Healer explained that what Sophia had been through was the equivalent to being hit with a Cruciatus Curse over and over. They both knew how horrible that felt.

"Do you know any family members we can contact?" the Healer asked as he finished. Harry looked to Albus. He didn't know.

"I think most of her family are Muggles. But I know at least one friend who will probably know more than me. I need to tell her about this anyway, she was vital in tracking him down."

"Go do that at once," his father said. "I'll stay here in the meantime." Albus nodded gratefully and Apparated straight back to the Base. Mary ran towards him at once.

"Did you find her? Is she okay? What happened?"

Albus explained what had happened with minimal details. Mary still seemed about to start crying, though it was also probably relief.

"Where is she now?"

"At St. Mungo's. My father is there with her. Do you know any family members she would want us to contact?"

"No, she doesn't want to worry them. Besides, can Muggles even enter St. Mungo's?"

Albus didn't know. He didn't have room in his head for such minor questions at the moment. He needed to know that Sophia would be fine.

"Let's go." Mary said. Albus didn't protest. He wanted to be where Sophia was too.

Sophia woke up in what she assumed was a hospital. Her body ached, but not nearly as bad as when she was in that cage. As she blinked against the bright light, someone dimmed them for her.

"Thanks, Albus," she mumbled, still not quite awake.

"You're welcome," a voice replied, who was definitely not Albus. She flinched as she saw Harry Potter himself sitting in a chair next to her bed.

"Mr. Potter. What are you doing here?"

"Making sure you're okay. You went through quite the ordeal, I'm glad to see you're doing better. Don't worry, Albus is probably coming back soon as well. He went to see if he could find any family members to contact."

Contact her family members? Oh no. She hoped Mary had dissuaded him from doing that. She hadn't even told them she had a new job. Or about him.

"Why?" she managed to ask, though her mind was racing a million miles per second.

"Standard procedure when someone is injured on the job," Harry said lightly. "But if you don't want us to do that, I can send an owl and hope it's not too late."

Before she had time to think about that, the door opened and both Albus and Mary came through the door. She was relieved to see them both, and relieved that they didn't seem to have brought anyone else.

"Sophia! Are you okay?" Mary said as she launched herself at her. Sophia wasn't even able to get her arms up in time to meet the assault.

"Mary, you're choking her. Let her breathe," Albus said. Mary let go of her at once.

"I'm sorry. It's just… I was so worried. I'm glad you survived."

She had been worried? How had she even heard about it? She looked at Albus in confusion.

"I needed to use your computer to find you, and Mary was the only other one who knew how to start it," he said with a shrug. "I'm sorry I used it without your permission."

Sophia shook her head. "I'm the one who should say sorry. I should have realised he was taunting us and been more careful."

"That's not your fault. We should have protected you better. You have no idea how worried I was…" Albus began, but Harry stopped him.

"Let's discuss all of that later. For now, it is enough to know that you should rest for quite some time, but there should be no lasting damage other than that. Are you sure there is no one else you want us to contact?"

Sophia shook her head. She didn't want to have to explain any of this to her family.

"My family are mostly Muggles. Are they even able to get in here?"

"Yes, as long as they are accompanied by a witch or wizard. Do you want someone to tell them?"

"No. I was just curious."

Harry smiled at that before leaving the three young ones alone. Sophia fell back in the bed, she still felt exhausted. And embarrassed over being caught like that in the first place. She really shouldn't have done that.

"How do you feel?" Albus asked. He didn't seem to meet her eyes. Was he angry with her too?

"Like I've been run over by a truck," she replied. "Or spent a significant amount of time enduring electric shocks, which is basically what happened."

"Electric?"

"It's the closest thing I know to describing it. You know what electricity is, right?"

"It is what makes technology work. And lights and so on."

Sophia was too tired to explain it further.

"Yes, though it can also be dangerous. It's like being struck by lightning, only not quite as deadly. Anyway, the chain sent a series of shocks through my body, making it tense up. And I think I almost died." Mary squeezed her hand as she told them what had happened, as much as she could remember. After that, Albus explained how he had managed to use her desktop to track the laptop, which was impressive considering he didn't know much about computers at all.

"But wasn't it off? How did you manage to turn it on?"

"Mary knew that you had to press the button under the desk."

"But the password?"

"Well, I was hoping it was the same as on your laptop. I had seen you type that in numerous times during the last week, so I managed to guess it within a few attempts. I'm sorry if that's rude."

"I'll forgive you since it literally saved my life. But I'll change it now though."

Albus smiled. Maybe he wasn't angry with her after all.
