The wind tugged gently at his cloak. The crowd's thunder had long faded, swallowed by the forest.
His gaze lingered on the broken battlefield behind him—now emptied of life. Twenty-five Hobgoblin warriors lay strewn across the ground, their corpses marked by clean, deliberate strikes. Crushed windpipes. Shattered knees. Weapons they once wielded now buried in their own throats. His stick, splintered at the tip, rested calmly on his shoulder—its work complete.
None of them had lasted more than a few minutes.
He looked down at the wooden stick still in his hand.
