Chapter 8 - Chapter 8

The narrator remarked, "The next day, Megan and Joseph headed into town together. As they strolled along, Joseph started sniffing the air and caught the scent of meat." Joseph asked, "Do you smell that?" Megan replied, "Smell what?" Joseph kept sniffing and insisted, "That's fresh meat. Let's go." The narrator continued, "Joseph quickly turned the corner with Megan not far behind. They arrived at a butcher shop, where Joseph dashed inside, and Megan followed. Inside, Joseph eagerly inhaled the aroma of the fresh meat the butcher was bringing out." Megan questioned, "How did you even smell that?" Joseph responded, "How could you not?"

The narrator shared, "Joseph paid the butcher and received the ham he had just selected. After his purchase, Joseph brought the ham home and cooked it for dinner." Both Megan and Joseph ate their portions of the ham, leaving some on the table, which Joseph ate. Megan remarked, "Wow, you must really like ham." Joseph replied, "Absolutely. And I love all kinds of meat." The narrator continued, "Later, Joseph took time to shave before showering—a process that lasted over an hour. He didn't realize Megan was secretly watching him, and the sink ended up covered in hair." After the shower, Joseph reencountered Megan. Megan then noticed hair growing on Joseph's legs. Quickly, Joseph wrapped his bathrobe around his legs, attempting to hide the new hair from Megan.

Upon returning to her room, Megan initiated a video call with Kayla and Kendal. During their discussion, Kendal observed, "You mentioned yourself that he has been behaving unusually—demonstrating keen senses, purchasing and consuming meat, and requiring more time than average to shave. These are characteristics often attributed to werewolves." Megan replied, "That assessment seems illogical. I have known him his entire life and have never encountered evidence of such a phenomenon."

Kayla contributed, "There are four conventional ways someone becomes a werewolf. The first is by birth, with powers manifesting at age thirteen. However, Joseph is older than this and has not displayed symptoms until recently, so we can dismiss this possibility." Kendal continued, "The second method involves being bitten by an existing werewolf. Megan said, "No one has bitten him."

Kendal then noted, "The third way is through infection from the blood of a werewolf." Megan remarked, "He has had no contact with any blood since our arrival. That said, I cannot speak for the individuals on the vampire television crew. Regardless, let us refocus on Joseph. Kayla concluded, "If we rule out the first three options, only one remains—a werewolf must have cursed him." Did you not mention that this began after he acquired a certain necklace?" Megan countered, "There is no conclusive proof that the amulet is cursed." Kayla replied, "Not yet. However, we have been searching the library for further information, and will report back once we locate the necklace."

Following the call, Megan was unaware that Carolyn, disguised as an owl, had been covertly observing and overhearing their conversation about Joseph's possible transformation. Carolyn subsequently traveled to the vampires' hideout to relay the gathered intelligence.

The narrator recounted, "When Carolyn arrived at the castle, she informed her friends that she had found the werewolf they were searching for and knew its identity." Matthew replied, "Great job, Carolyn. Now we know who we're dealing with." The vampires cheered by clinking their blood-filled cups, drinking them, and feeling themselves grow younger. Next, they piled into their car and drove around town, hunting for Joseph throughout the night.

While cruising the streets, they caught the attention of the police, who began tailing them. Hearing the siren, Carolyn glanced out the back window and spotted the patrol car right behind them. She announced, "Matt, 911 squad at six o'clock." Matt responded confidently, "The police? No problem; I'll lose them." He pressed hard on the accelerator, picking up speed, as even more police joined the pursuit.

To shake off the authorities, Matt steered the group through a construction site. He leaned out the window, grabbed a rock, and hurled it at the cement mixer's controls. Cement sprayed everywhere as they exited, trapping police cars once it hardened. Despite escaping, Matt intentionally pulled up right in front of the police station. Carolyn asked, "The police station?" Raven exclaimed, "Are you crazy?" Matt shrugged, "What? I wanted a longer chase."

Alexis quickly approached Chief Jade and began, "Chief, it's..." But Chief Jade immediately recognized the situation, saying, "Them." Heading outside, the chief pointed at the vampires and ordered, "Catch them!" The narrator concluded, "The police jumped into their vehicles and set off in pursuit as the vampires sped away."

Police were chasing the vampires around town, and Chris made sure all the streetlights stayed green so they could keep moving quickly without stopping. Police Chief Jade accelerated her vehicle and let out a sinister laugh. Police Chief Jade saw the vampire car and accelerated to pull alongside it. Police Chief Jade leaned out of her car and grabbed the vampires' car. Police Chief Jade declared, "You're mine now. Once I arrest you..." while the vampires let out piercing screams. "Excuse me, chief," Matt said. Chief Jade asked, "What? Matt pointed ahead, and Chief Jade saw they were approaching the back of a bus. Police Chief Jade became visibly alarmed, released her hold on the vampires' vehicle, and promptly returned to her own car. She drove around the street where the vampires resided, returning to the same road as she approached their location. Police Chief Jade gave an evil laugh, certain of victory. Police Chief Jade declared, "You're mine." With officers positioned ahead and behind, Matt quickly formed a plan. Matt accelerated to 140 MPH and turned left sharply. Afterwards, the police cars collided, allowing the vampires to escape. The narrator stated, "Matt's abrupt left turn caused their vehicle to lurch, resulting in considerable alarm among the occupants of the vampires' car, who promptly braced themselves." After they landed, Matt steered them down a staircase and returned to the road. The vampires fastened their seatbelts, feeling frightened by the recent events. The narrator said, "Police Chief Jade emerged from the pile of officers and saw the vampires escape again." Police Chief Jade remarked, "No, no, no—keep running, vampires. Sooner or later, your luck will run out."

That night, Joseph transformed into a werewolf, though he remained unaware of it, having slept through the entire event. At dawn, the vampires promptly returned to their hideout, proceeding directly to their coffins rather than to their residences, as there had not been sufficient time to return home. The following day, Megan conducted surveillance on Angelica while Kendal and Kayla visited the town library to research Joseph's necklace. Despite thoroughly searching the town, Megan was unable to locate Angelica and subsequently proceeded to her residence. Upon arrival, Megan used a flashlight to inspect the premises and discovered Angelica's diary on the living room table. Although Megan recognized the ethical implications of reading another person's diary without consent, she decided to proceed, believing it necessary for Joseph's sake.

At that moment, Megan received a phone call from Kayla, which she answered. Kayla informed her, "Megan, it's Kayla, and Kendal is with me. Kendal and I found information about Joseph's necklace in the library's computer." Megan replied, "And I found Angelica's diary. You would not believe how old these entries are—they date back to the 6th century. This diary is over 1,400 years old, and I suspect Angelica may be as well."

Kendal responded, "So, you're suggesting that Angelica is over 1,400 years old but appears to be an ordinary adult? How is that possible? She could only achieve such longevity by discovering a fountain of youth, or perhaps she is..." Megan interjected, "I understand your skepticism, but how can this be possible?"

Megan heard Angelica open her front door and immediately grew anxious about getting caught. She quickly said, "Got to go," hung up her phone, and Angelica, with her heightened hearing, heard the beeping sound. Entering the living room, Angelica switched on the lights while Megan kept Angelica's diary, hoping to find evidence inside. Cautiously, Megan peeked out from her hiding spot and saw Angelica searching around the room. Angelica phoned Matt, saying, "Someone is in my house," to which Matt replied, "I'm betting it's the spy." Megan quietly crawled out of the living room, attempting to sneak away. Angelica soon realized someone had left and reported it to Matt during the call. "Well, whoever it was, they've left. Now, let's get on with the plan," Angelica said. Matt responded, "We will after we finish sleeping and night comes." "Yes, sir," Angelica agreed, and they ended the call. Angelica then went upstairs to her room, climbed into her coffin, and fell asleep.

The narrator stated, "Megan walked across town reading Angelica's diary, although the entries appeared fabricated to her due to their lack of coherence. Upon arriving home, Megan initiated a video call with Kayla and Kendal to seek information concerning Joseph's necklace, which they provided." Kendal forwarded Megan a link regarding Joseph's necklace, which Megan reviewed. Megan remarked, "This is known as The Pendant of The High Howlers. It was crafted by three witches in the 16th century on All Hallows' Eve using a spell from their unique spell book." Observing the necklace closely, Megan noted, "That is the necklace Joseph is wearing. Its activation likely transformed him into a high howler." Kendal responded, "This supports the conclusion that your brother is a werewolf.

Furthermore, we located documentation on historical High Howlers; each possessed the same necklace. These sources state that after someone casts the spell, only people who share blood with the original wearer receive its benefits. Megan clarified, "You mean, familial relations?" Kayla confirmed, "Precisely. I recommend monitoring him closely." Megan responded, "Rest assured, I will. I also intend to pay close attention to Angelica, who dates back 1,400 years." Megan then concluded the call and proceeded downstairs to join Joseph for dinner.
