"The song of humanity… is a song of courage! Humanity's greatness… lies in its courage!"
Lind stood at the edge of the sea, shouting boldly into the wind.
"Waiting for a ship to come was never going to work. In the end, I had to build one myself!"
"To conquer the seas takes courage—and that, I have in abundance. So what if I sail alone? If Monkey D. Luffy dared to do it, why shouldn't I? Let's go!"
"And besides, my preparation puts Luffy's to shame. He built his ship in two years, but I built mine with my own hands. No way this thing flips—I guarantee it!"
Lind looked proudly at his masterpiece, a ship he had spent two full years crafting, and nodded with confidence.
It had been over two years since he mutated the legendary coconut that unlocked psychic powers.
Unconsciously, two and a half years had passed since he arrived in this world. His body had matured to the age of seventeen—just the right age to set sail according to this world's customs.
For reasons he couldn't explain, no ships had ever come near the island. Lind had grown tired of waiting.
So he did what any self-respecting protagonist would do: built his own sea vessel from scratch.
Originally, Lind had no intention of actually venturing out. He'd wanted to stay hidden and grow stronger in peace. But this island was just too small, too limited for real development.
And without a system or cheat-like guide, trying to reach invincibility on a lonely rock like this was next to impossible. The solitude alone was suffocating.
Now, after two and a half years of effort, preparation, and trial and error, Lind finally made his decision—it was time to leave the island and find civilization.
During his time here, he had mutated every plant on the island dozens, even hundreds of times. Though he never recreated anything quite as absurdly powerful as the "Dragon Banana" or "Shenlong Coconut"—names he had given them himself—he had still produced a variety of extraordinary plants.
There were energy-restoring durians, mind-clearing durians, skin-hardening durians, and even wound-healing durians—each one highly practical.
He also created giant grasses that could be sewn into sails, ultra-hard timber, a mystery resin with better sealing properties than rubber, and even a sunflower-like flower that functioned like a Log Pose.
Especially that flower—it worked across the entire Grand Line. Even in the New World, it could guide him island to island. It resembled a sunflower, but instead of tracking the sun, it pointed toward the next island.
Thanks to that flower, and his collection of other utility plants, Lind dared to venture out into the unpredictable chaos of the New World all by himself.
Of course, his greatest reassurance came from his own strength. After all, Lind could now fly on a sword.
If he wanted to be reckless, he could've just grabbed the pointer flower and rode a plank into the waves. Heck, he could've skipped the plank entirely and gone full Tao Pai Pai style—flying through the air on a pillar.
He had tested it once. But by the time the pointer flower bloomed, the ship was already mostly built.
And besides, he had already flown around the area several times using his psychic power and still hadn't found any human-inhabited islands.
So he chose the safe route—build a proper ship and set sail.
Now, with two and a half years behind him, every detail was finally in place.
"Tomorrow, I set sail. Today, I'll finish preparing what I need. As for the rest of the island's resources… they'll be gifts for the next lucky soul who ends up here."
"Who knows who might stumble upon these blessings of nature?"
Soon, Lind gathered every valuable seed and every odd or functional plant he had cultivated and loaded them onto the ship.
Over the last two years, he had tested planting mutant crops. To his delight, the mutations altered the plants' very genes. They were hereditary.
Although second-generation plants weren't quite as potent as the originals, their effects were still solid.
Even if Lind didn't need them right now, they'd be perfect for raising reliable subordinates later.
After all, every farming protagonist needed a loyal crew of overpowered followers—best to plan ahead.
"Next, water and food. Thank goodness I mutated that resin that keeps things fresh. Otherwise, all this fruit would rot fast."
"As for meat, I'll just fish while I'm out at sea. Still… I can't believe I spent two and a half years and didn't mutate a single rice-like or grain-producing plant. I'll have to wait until I reach civilization to buy some seeds and mutate them myself."
"And water—ugh, my precious Spring of Life. Shame I can't take it with me."
Lind sorted through his supplies, muttering his complaints.
The so-called Spring of Life had begun as a regular puddle formed from rainfall. One day, on a whim, Lind tried mutating it.
Not only did the water change, but the puddle itself transformed into a small structure—his first discovery of the world's potential beyond plants.
After the mutation, the spring began producing an endless supply of healing water. Lind named it the Spring of Life.
Giving names to his mutated creations had become one of his few sources of entertainment during his years in solitude.
Soon, night fell and the moon rose.
Lind sat at the window, gazing out at the vast ocean with mixed emotions.
What was once a shabby little shack had, after 900 days of effort, become a cozy, well-crafted wooden home.
Fine furniture filled the place, all made by Lind using his powerful psychic abilities. Each piece sat in its own carefully chosen spot.
"I kept saying I wanted to leave… but now that it's time, I feel a little reluctant. These past two and a half years have been more fulfilling than the twenty before them."
"Sigh… Who knows when I'll return? Will this little cabin still be here? Will someone else live in it?"
"Maybe, when I'm old, I'll come back to retire here."
"No more thinking. Sleep. Tomorrow is the start of something new."
After spending so much time alone, Lind had grown accustomed to talking to himself, especially before bed.
The excitement of tomorrow's departure left him tossing and turning. His thoughts spiraled until he drifted off without realizing it.
"Ah! I can't believe I forgot something so important!"
The next morning, as he inspected his ship, Lind suddenly froze.
"I didn't name it! Do ships in One Piece even have their names carved into them?"
"And what about a flag? I'm not planning to become a pirate, but should I draw something on the sail anyway?"
"You know what? Why not both. Let's follow this world's style. I'll name her the Laisherni—the 'Wanderer.'"
"And the flag? Let's make it match the ship's bow—how about a massive roc in flight?"
Without hesitation, Lind grabbed some red resin and painted the ship's name along its hull. Then he painted a vivid image of a giant roc across the sail.
"All set. Absolutely perfect!"
Lind stood at the water's edge, beaming at his work.
"Set sail!"
With a thought, he lifted the ship into the water using psychic power. Then he stepped onto the deck, waved to the sea, and called out.
With another pulse of psychic energy, the anchor retracted, the sails unfurled to catch the wind, and the ship began gliding in the direction pointed out by the flower compass.
Psychic power made everything so much easier. Tasks that once took hours could now be handled in seconds.
Being able to mutate a fruit as broken as the Shenlong Coconut… Lind figured he must've saved the galaxy in his previous life to deserve this kind of luck.
Standing at the bow, staring at the calm sea, Lind was filled with conflicting emotions.
Though he had been brimming with confidence before departure, now that he was out on the open water, anxiety crept in.
Could his psychic power really withstand the New World's infamous storms?
What level was his strength, truly?
Would he survive the ruthless pirates that roamed these seas?
"Please let it go smoothly. I'm not asking for much—just a small, inhabited island where I can lie low and develop quietly."
"If I can find a way to get information about the outside world, or a place to train in swordsmanship, that'd be perfect."
"Sure, I've used psychic power to learn how to fly with a sword. But I can't release sword aura or send out flying slashes yet. I can't even call myself a real swordsman."
"I barely know the basics. Just that nonsense about 'breathing of all things.' Oda clearly knows nothing about swordsmanship. Sword aura? Flying slashes? Total scams."
"I need a proper foundation. Otherwise, I'll just end up fighting from a kilometer away, taking heads from the shadows. In this world where swordsmen are basically mages, I might as well become a long-range assassin."
"Like Di Renjie, except instead of throwing blades, I'm launching swords."
Life on the sea was quiet and dull. Lind didn't feel like training his body or honing his psychic power, so he let his mind wander as he stared at the horizon.
Occasionally, he would use his psychic ability to pluck a bird or fish from the sea or sky and attempt a random mutation, hoping one of them would become a "Chosen One."
He had been doing this for over two years now.
As for whether it was causing chaos in the ecosystem?
Lind didn't care in the slightest.
Maybe… this was the essence of a true "joy-seeker."
