Hantengu's regeneration speed was terrifying.
In just a few breaths, his body split apart, instantly becoming two separate demons.
They had divided.
Tanjiro's heart skipped a beat.
"Is it like Upper Rank Six?" he thought grimly. "Do we need to decapitate both heads at the same time to kill him completely?"
Before Tanjiro could think further, Muichiro Tokito had already been caught in a pincer attack by the two demons.
There was no time to hesitate.
"I'll take this one!" Tanjiro shouted, stepping forward without hesitation.
Muichiro did not respond. He simply raised his blade and charged toward the newly formed demon ahead of him.
"I haven't been out in a long time…"
That demon tilted its head back and gazed at the sky, breathing deeply as if released from a long imprisonment. It plucked a maple leaf, flicked it lightly, and waved it through the air.
In the next instant, a violent hurricane erupted.
Muichiro was engulfed completely and blasted through the ceiling, his body vanishing into the night sky.
"That kid actually flew pretty far," the horned demon remarked lazily. "What about you, Sekido? When do you plan to finish this?"
The demon called Sekido looked identical in appearance but radiated rage. Veins bulged across his face as he glared at Tanjiro, gripping a staff-like weapon covered in metal rings.
"How irritating," Sekido snarled. "You're still smiling? Being locked up with you pisses me off just thinking about it!"
"Oh?" the other demon laughed, its long tongue hanging out. "Then splitting up really is a win-win."
The character 'Joy' was carved into its tongue.
The two demons chatted casually, completely ignoring Tanjiro.
Suddenly, Sekido slammed his staff into the ground.
Crack!
Lightning exploded outward from the impact point.
"What is this?!" Tanjiro barely managed to raise his guard before the violent energy knocked him off balance.
At that moment, he spotted a figure standing at the edge of the shattered roof.
"Genya? Run!" Tanjiro shouted desperately.
"Don't call my name like we're friends!" Genya shouted back coldly.
A black gun barrel was already aimed at the demons.
Bang!
The double-barreled shotgun roared, blasting one demon's head apart.
Bang!
Another shot followed, severing the second demon's head as well.
However, just like before, the bodies did not disintegrate.
Instead, they continued growing.
The destroyed heads began reforming. Flesh condensed out of nothing, rebuilding entire bodies.
Worse still, two massive wings burst from their backs.
Flying demons.
In just moments, four demons now stood on the battlefield.
Each one radiated strength comparable to an Upper Rank.
Tanjiro suddenly felt his body go weightless.
Pain exploded through his thigh.
He twisted around and saw a bird-like demon gripping him with its talons, lifting him rapidly into the air.
"Nezuko, don't worry about me!" Tanjiro shouted. "Save Genya first!"
"You still have time to worry about others?" the demon sneered, looking down at him.
Tanjiro clenched his teeth and gripped his Nichirin Blade with both hands.
Hinokami Kagura.
Flames ignited along the blade as he prepared to strike.
The demon suddenly opened its mouth.
A series of layered sound waves burst forth.
The shockwave rattled Tanjiro's brain violently. The flames on his blade sputtered out.
"No. If I lose consciousness now, it's over."
He bit down hard on his tongue, pain snapping his mind back into focus.
Flames reignited.
With one decisive slash, Tanjiro severed the demon's claw.
His body dropped instantly.
"This height will kill you!" he shouted to himself, desperately grabbing tree branches to slow his fall.
Even so, he crashed hard into the ground.
Still, it was the best outcome possible.
Panting, Tanjiro dragged himself toward the ruined building.
"This scent…"
His nose twitched sharply.
"It's Vincent Fox. He's here. Nezuko and Genya are safe."
Relief surged through him.
"I need to get there fast and warn him."
Inside the shattered house, Vincent Fox stood tall, Nichirin Blade glowing red-hot in his grip, Nezuko sheltered behind him.
"So many," Vincent muttered calmly. "This might take a bit of time."
The winged demon returned, joining the others.
Four demons stood together.
One restrained Genya. The remaining three turned toward Vincent.
They stared at the blazing blade in his hand.
"That sword… it's glowing red."
"A Crimson Blade."
"Could it be the swordsman who nearly took Lord Muzan's head three hundred years ago?"
"Kill him now. Lord Muzan will reward us."
The three demons attacked simultaneously.
"Numbers?" Vincent said calmly. "Is that supposed to matter?"
He moved the instant they did.
Boom!
The flame-wreathed blade cleaved straight through one demon.
Fire engulfed its body instantly.
Its wings were severed, flesh burning away instead of regenerating.
"What's happening?! Why won't this fire go out? Why can't I heal?!"
The winged demon screamed in panic.
"Suppress the flames!" Sekido roared. "The regeneration is being canceled out!"
Sekido raised his staff, rage twisting his face.
"You're really pissing me off!"
He slammed the staff down again, unleashing a massive surge of lightning.
Vincent did not dodge.
He raised his blade.
"That's all?"
He swung downward.
The lightning split apart.
Sekido stared in disbelief.
"That was my full power!"
"Blow him away!" the Joy demon shouted.
"I was just about to."
The Joy demon merged into its maple-leaf fan and swung violently.
A monstrous hurricane erupted, tearing the house apart.
"Hahaha! That brat's probably flying halfway across the mountain now!"
The Joy demon squinted into the distance.
Then it felt something hot.
Something close.
Its shoulder burned.
"Behind me!"
It turned too late.
Serious Punch.
Vincent's left fist obliterated the hurricane.
The remaining force punched straight through the demon's torso.
With his right hand, Vincent swung.
The demon's head flew.
"Only you left," Vincent said calmly.
Sekido roared and thrust his staff forward.
Crack!
Vincent grabbed the staff with one hand.
With a slight squeeze, the weapon bent like soft metal.
