Chapter 164 - Claws Against Fire

The razor-sharp dragon fangs, the blade-like dorsal fin, the claws like scythes, and that jet-fighter-like body—just the sight of its massive frame was enough to shake the hearts of all who dared face it. Its cruel, feral eyes alone carried such savagery that one glance could make even the bravest trainer falter.

Amidst the flames scorching the battlefield and the rivers of molten lava, Garchomp soared into the skies!

Like a fighter jet taking off, its wings carved through the twilight, unleashing a piercing roar as it shot upward at a speed so great that the naked eye could barely follow. When the Dragon of the Land spread its wings, few Pokémon in existence could match its blinding swiftness. In the blink of an eye, the distance between Garchomp, Sabrina, and her Moltres closed completely.

"Dragon Rush!"

BOOM!

The sound was like a wall shattering. With the full force of its shark-like head, Garchomp slammed into Moltres, unleashing its devastating finishing move, Burn Up. Moltres had only moments ago exhausted most of its strength by releasing massive torrents of fire; now, struck square in the chest, it screamed in pain, a cry so sharp it tore across the battlefield.

"Dragon Claw!"

The titan raised its scythe-like claws, far larger than Moltres's body, and slashed downward. Two cross-shaped gashes carved themselves deep into Moltres's chest, blood mingling with tongues of searing flame erupting from the wound.

"Vaporeon—Hydro Pump!"

The Eevee at Logan's side leapt forward, transforming mid-air into Vaporeon as it launched a roaring jet of water strong enough to pierce through steel and stone. The torrent slammed into Moltres like the shot of a sniper rifle, sending the fiery bird spiraling downward in agony. Its flames clashed violently with the crashing water, sizzling and hissing as steam engulfed the air.

But before it touched the ground, Vaporeon twisted gracefully, morphing back into Flareon and landing beside Logan on Garchomp's back.

High above, Sabrina clutched tightly to Moltres's feathers, her body spinning as the Legendary Bird fought desperately to regain control. Only at the last second—mere meters above the molten magma—did Moltres steady itself, hovering shakily in mid-air.

"That timid Eevee of yours… to think it could transform so fluidly. You've trained it far harder than I expected."

Sabrina's voice was cool, but her pale face betrayed her earlier panic. She rose slowly to her feet on Moltres's back, clutching the golden badge in her hand. Its radiant light pulsed brilliantly, while beneath her, Moltres struggled violently against her command, wings flaring with resistance.

It was true—if anyone could control Moltres with ease, it would have been Blaine with his Crimson Volcano Badge. Sabrina's arrival here had not only been to challenge Blaine… but also to steal that very badge to strengthen her grip over the Legendary Bird.

Logan, standing tall on Garchomp's back, grinned faintly. "For that, I should be thanking you, Sabrina. If not for the information you gave me, I never would've met this little Eevee."

At his side, Flareon pressed its head against his hand. Its eyes burned with defiance as it glared at Sabrina—the one who had tormented it so cruelly in the past. Fear lingered faintly within, but greater still was the resolve: the resolve to fight, to claim revenge.

"Phew… that was too close for comfort, Logan!"

Blaine's Charizard soared up alongside Garchomp. The old Gym Leader pushed his sunglasses up with a sigh of relief.

"When a Pokémon evolves, it unleashes enormous energy. Sure, evolution sometimes restores strength during battles, but making Gabite evolve mid-attack to block Moltres's Burn Up? That was far too reckless."

Even so, his eyes lingered on the newly evolved Garchomp, admiration gleaming within. "But to think your Gabite had suppressed its evolution for so long… the energy it released was terrifying. Enough to withstand even Moltres's strongest strike head-on without a scratch."

For the first time, Blaine felt the tides of battle had shifted.

With this Garchomp alone, Logan didn't even need Mewtwo. Sabrina was finished.

For Garchomp was no ordinary dragon—it was Sinnoh's national treasure, known as one of the dragons closest to the gods themselves, alongside the mighty Dragonite. A perfectly trained Garchomp stood only one step beneath divinity, the difference between it and a god being not strength, but the authority of power.

Though Blaine had never witnessed Sinnoh Champion Cynthia's Garchomp, Logan's was enough to convince him. Towering at nearly eight meters, its presence was overwhelming—its aura so heavy the very air seemed to crystallize around it. Ferocious, unyielding, and yet perfectly disciplined. In its homeland, this Garchomp would surely be crowned undisputed king among its kind.

Against a true god, Garchomp might still fall short. But against Sabrina's Moltres—one chained and bound by a trainer's false badge—it would not falter.

The only concern was endurance. A Mythical Pokémon like Moltres possessed flames that seemed endless. Unlike ordinary Pokémon, Legendary and Mythical beings represented the very laws of reality themselves. They could be brought to the brink of death, but never truly slain. Their basic attacks were instinctive—requiring no energy, no exhaustion.

If this were a game, it would be as though their MP regenerated endlessly. A trained Pokémon might surpass them in raw power, but never in stamina.

That was why no ordinary Pokémon could hope to outlast them. To defeat a god, one must either unleash another god—or strike swiftly and decisively before their eternal strength could recover.

Perhaps only the Creator God itself could strip these impossible abilities away.
