There was another reason why Ishida Ryūken chose to help Shiba Isshin establish himself in the World of the Living and entrust Kurosaki Masaki to his care.
Ryūken was no longer alone.
He had already decided to take Katagiri Kanae as his wife.
Kanae had served the Ishida household for many years. She had grown up alongside Ryūken, and though their relationship had long remained unspoken, it was never shallow. In the past, his engagement to Masaki had suppressed those feelings beneath duty and obligation.
Now, that obligation no longer existed.
After Masaki was forced to leave the Ishida household due to the Hollow incident her Quincy purity compromised Ryūken was forced to confront reality.
The Ishida family had originally taken Masaki in because she was a rare pure-blood Quincy. Through her, the family intended to preserve its lineage.
But that possibility had been severed.
A Quincy tainted by Hollow power could no longer fulfill that role.
Thus, the Ishida family stood at a crossroads.
One option was to seek out another pure-blood Quincy to maintain tradition.
The other… was to abandon that rigid path and follow one's own will.
The former was nearly impossible. Pure-blood Quincy had become exceedingly rare, and even mixed-blood Quincy were dwindling. The continued existence of the Ishida line was already something of a miracle.
So Ryūken chose the latter.
He chose Kanae.
With quiet resolve, he confessed his feelings, and their relationship quickly deepened. What had once been restrained by duty now moved forward without hesitation.
It was also because of this choice that Ryūken extended his support to Isshin.
Masaki had already chosen her path.
And since Ryūken could no longer stand at her side, the responsibility of protecting her naturally fell to Isshin.
With Ryūken's assistance, Isshin gradually established himself in the human world. Using the medical knowledge he retained from his time as a Shinigami combined with practical guidance from Ryūken he opened a small clinic.
It wasn't grand, but it was stable.
Enough to build a life.
Meanwhile, Kurosaki Masaki completed her studies. As time passed, the bond between her and Isshin deepened naturally.
Isshin, despite his true age, retained the appearance of a young man. In matters of romance, however, he was far from experienced arguably far less adept than his nephew, Shiba Kaien, who had long since married his wife, Shiba Miyako.
Yet Masaki's presence bridged that gap effortlessly.
Their days together grew into something steady and undeniable.
Eventually, they married.
Not long after, Masaki became pregnant.
Though their origins were different one a former Shinigami, the other a Quincy their union was not unnatural. Quincy were, at their core, humans with spiritual abilities, and Isshin, through the special Gigai created by Urahara Kisuke, had become a being closely aligned with humanity.
There was no barrier between them.
Their child was born without issue.
When it came time to name him, Isshin struggled.
Names were never his strength.
After much thought, he settled on a single idea protection.
He wanted his son to grow into someone strong enough to protect what mattered, especially his mother, who had already endured so much.
From that wish, the name was formed:
Ichigo.
However, the child did not bear the name Shiba.
Instead
He was named Kurosaki Ichigo.
The Shiba name carried too much weight within Soul Society. Even in decline, it remained well known. For someone like Isshin who had abandoned his post and now lived as a human it was safer to leave that identity behind.
More importantly, Isshin was aware of Aizen.
After learning the truth behind the Hollow that attacked them, he understood the danger of drawing attention.
Thus, he chose anonymity.
Thanks to Urahara's specially designed Gigai, Isshin's spiritual pressure was completely suppressed. He could no longer sense Hollows but in exchange, neither Shinigami nor Hollows could easily detect him.
As long as he remained cautious, he could stay hidden.
He fully adopted his new life.
Shiba Isshin became
Kurosaki Isshin.
From another perspective, it was as if he had married into the Kurosaki family.
And so, quietly, a new household was formed.
For Isshin and Masaki, Ichigo's birth was a moment of pure significance.
For others…
It was something far greater.
In the World of the Living, Urahara Kisuke and Shihōin Yoruichi observed from the shadows.
Within Soul Society, Sōsuke Aizen watched with keen interest.
And Shigure Sōsuke, too, was aware.
For Shigure, this moment carried a strange weight.
He was witnessing the birth of a being who, in another context, stood at the center of everything.
A convergence of powers.
A child born from a Shinigami and a Quincy
Yet carrying something more.
Because within Ichigo flowed not only Shinigami and Quincy lineage…
But also the remnants of a Hollow White the experimental creation of Aizen that had fused with Masaki.
Shinigami.
Quincy.
Hollow.
Three opposing forces, now coexisting within a single human vessel.
Aizen's gaze lingered.
Isshin believed he had escaped notice by changing his name and hiding his Reiatsu.
But that assumption was flawed.
Aizen had already taken interest.
To him, Ichigo was not merely a child.
He was a possibility.
A living convergence of boundaries that should never have been crossed.
And such an existence…
Held limitless potential.
Aizen adjusted his glasses slightly, a faint smile forming.
"…Let us see," he murmured, "what kind of path you will carve out."
