The sound of knocking broke the fragile silence of the morning. Selena had barely managed to wipe her face dry after the exhausting conversation with Sam. After all the tears, the trembling voice, the final decision. The baby was hers. The life inside her was hers. And whatever came next, she would face it alone. Or so she thought.
The door clicked open.
Jack stepped in with his usual smug confidence, dressed in black slacks and a crisp shirt with the sleeves rolled up to his elbows. Beside him was a neatly groomed older man in a suit, his butler, and, by the looks of it, carrying a large brown paper bag packed to the brim with food.
Jack's voice was light and playful. "Surprise breakfast delivery. But of course... you'd be here." His eyes zeroed in on Sam.
Sam, who was still sitting on the edge of Selena's couch, stiffened. His shoulders tensed, hands curling into fists on his lap.
Selena's heart sank. "Jack? You didn't say you'll visit?"
