Chapter 2 - Chapter 2

It had taken Lyra a while to get her bearings, long enough that the dark of night was slowly receeding, giving way to the first rays of the sun. She had dusted herself off before heading in a random direction and just started walking.

She kept walking for hours, long enough for the sun to start baking down on her. She was exhausted, thirsty and hungry, yet after several hours just walking, there was seemingly no rest in sight.

`When will I get those boons I spun for?´ She thought. Perhaps there was one that would help her.

No sooner had she thought it, she received a prickling feeling in her pocket. She quickly rummaged through them, only to find a coin resembling a galleon. Instinctively she threw the coin towards a small dirt mound to her right.

While soaring towards it`s target, the coin started to expand and change color from gold to green. It kept getting bigger and bigger until it hit the dirt mound and seemingly merging with it. Once it merged, the ground expanded until it revealed a circular green door facing her direction. She understood what it was just by looking at it. It was a hobbit hole. Just like those from the lord of the rings universe.

After the door had finished settling in, a couple of windows appeared on both sides of the door with a small flowerbed hanging underneath each one.

She just stared at the door for a small while before she decided that she would investigate this new addition to her surroundings, so she headed towards the door and opened it.

Entering the entrance, she noticed that it was an almost exact copy of Bilbo`s home from the hobbit, only a bit higher to the ceiling.

The entrance was a long hall with rooms on both sides of the door. One room was the study, and opposite was the sitting room. They were both fully furnished. Further down the hall was a small pantry filled with different meat, cheese, bread and greens.

Down the hall, she found two doors, leading to a fully stocked potions-lab and another to what looked to be a training room filled with training dummies.

Even further down the hall was a door opening leading to a large cylindrical room that went further down into the ground. All around you looked were bookshelves filled with books of all kinds. She picked a couple up and looked at the titles, The hunger games and A history of magic by Bathilda Bagshot. Which showed that there were books of all kinds.

But what got her attention was what she saw at the bottom of the room. She walked down the stairs and reached a solitary table standing in the middle. But it wasn`t the table that had her attention, but rather what was on top of it.

`What`s this?´ She thought as she reached out to grasp a piece of paper.

`Hello hello. It seems that you finally figured out what at least two of your gifts were. That`s right, the hobbit hole and a fully stocked library with anything you might have wanted to read. But, that still leaves two gifts doesn`t it? Well here you are. In front of you on the table you`ll see five items. Three are from the boon spin with one item to help with another, the last one however is from me as an apology for the whole mute thing. It`s an alchemical tool that will help you on that point. Good luck from here on out. A last tip, learn apparition and find somewhere else to put down your new home. See ya.´

She read and even re-read the letter to better understand what it said. Apparently all her boons had been in her pocket from the start. She put down her letter to get a better look at what had been left for her.

A grin was threatening to split her face at what she saw.

"Stupefy." Came a youthful voice from a circular underground training room.

Inside the room was a bunch of broken and otherwise dummies that looked to have been chewed by a dragon and spit back out. But in the middle of the circular room stood a young girl no older than ten years old.

She stood at a height of 1.35 m. She looked to be on the skinny side, but somewhat healthy. Her hair was long, raven colored with a white stripe at the front and tied up. She wore a pair of sweatpants and a t-shirt. A weird addition to her attire however, was the tight black choker around her neck with a small bell attached at the front. In her hand she held an intricately carved white stick.

This was of course Lyra. After a whole month of training and eating properly, her body had started to heal itself of the lingering damage from long term malnutrition.

After she had first discovered her galleon sized home, she had taken to follow the advice she got from the young looking being that had given her, her new life. She immediatly started to train in apparition so she could find a more suitable place to settle down.

"Woof woof!" "Sssssssaaaa." Came a couple of meters behind her by the doorway out of the training room.

When she turned around, she saw the two creatures that made noices. What she saw made her smile. By the door stood a snake and a dog-like creature. They were from what she found to be her third boon.

One was a large snake. It was dark-colored with many brown blotches bordered by black down the back. It was five meters long and weighed close to seventy kilograms. She was Jormungandr, a magical burmese python.

The other was a bright orange dog-like creature with black stripes. Its belly, tail, and fluff on top of its head were a cream color. Standing at a height of 75 cm and a weight of 20 kg. This was Fenrir, a growlithe.

Back when she had first entered the library and read the letter explaining her gifts and such, there had been five items on the table.

The first was her choker. Made with alchemy to enable the sounds that normally would exit her mouth to be transmitted through the bell attached to the fabric.

The second and third were eggs. They had hatched as soon as she touched them into a snake and a pokemon, which had surprised her a great deal. Jormungandr had grown fast and reached a length of five meters which was one of the largest snakes in the world.

The fourth item had been a stone. It was a mix between red and yellow in color. Lyra had immediatly recognized it as a fire stone, usually used in evolving certain pokemon, growlithe included.

The fifth item had been underneath a piece of cloth, signifying it`s importance. It was a wand. Her wand. It had a note attached to it which explained it. `Yew 11 3/4 inches long, thunderbird tailfeather dissolved in basilisk venom and later covered in basilisk ivory´. It was white as the ivory it was covered in, with a twisting claw-like carving at the end holding a red gem orb. The handle was straight with leather wrapped around it to help with the grip, it then had a hollow part surrounded by the wand wood carved into twisting around the hollowed part, finally connecting to a straight wand end.

She had used the last month effectively if she had to say so herself. Like the note said, she learned to apparate, and left the forest with her new home. She had ended up settling in Ottery st. catchpole, just like the Weasleys, Lovegoods and Diggorys. Thankfully she had learned that the door to her home had been covered by a wardscheme to help hide it from unwanted eyes.

She then spent the rest of her time training her magic, potions, history and more. She also spent a lot of time with her two familiars. Fenrir was just a bundle of energy and Jormungandr was a softie and often spoke with Lyra about anything and everything. That she could understand parseltongue came as no surprise. She did have Gaunt blood in her. She was thankfull that her choker could translate her speech. She knew that she would have been a proper parselmouth if she hadn`t lost her own voice.

She knew that she would make it with her two friends by her side.
