The sky was now a rich shade of twilight. As Magnus and I silently strolled toward the park's exit, we both felt the warmth of the day settle over us. I hugged one of the plush animals Magnus had won for me, feeling more content than I had in a long time.
Just as we reached the edge of the park, though, we froze. Because standing ahead of us, leaning casually against a metal railing, were none other than Xavier and Damien's muscular bodies.
Their darkened eyes immediately locked onto Magnus and me, and for a split second, I felt my heart drop. Cold sweats formed across my forehead, and I almost let go of all my stuffed animals.
Are we in trouble for sneaking away? I thought.
Magnus's playful confidence faltered as he tightened his grip on my shivering hand.
"Looks like we're finally caught, Little Wolf," he muttered under his breath, though there was still a glint of amusement in his eyes. "Game over..."
