Title: Shadows and Sparks
Larisa and I had just finished watching a Korean drama. I couldn't believe it—I sat through a whole movie relying on subtitles, and deep down, it felt good. The movie was really good. We watched I Am Not a Robot.
It took me nearly two days to finish it.
It wasn't something I was used to, but it showed me that love actually existed—somewhere, in some part of the world, people actually got to enjoy it.
Larisa went to the kitchen to get ice cream while I waited by the door for the pizza delivery. After we agreed to watch another movie, I came back without the pizza.
"Girl, where's the pizza?" Larisa asked.
"I didn't see the pizza or the delivery guy."
"Did someone order pizza?" a voice said.
"Freddie!" Larisa ran over and hugged a guy.
"I'm guessing you must be Meena Alasdair," the so-called Freddie said.
"And who are you?" I asked, clearly confused.
"Well, I'm Fred Chambers, but these fishes I rear call me Freddie."
"Nice meeting you."
"Girl, stop talking so formally. I've heard a lot about my best friend's girlfriend, and you're just looking at me like I'm an intruder."
"Well, sorry Fred. I was taken aback by your sudden sweetness. I didn't know you, but you did, so I was kinda stunned."
"Aww, aren't you a darling calling me sweet?"
"Well, my oh my, you're stunning—blessed with a heavenly, gracious beauty. I don't think girls like you exist in real life."
"And you're sure you're gifted with a sweet mouth," I replied.
"Larry, I love her! She's feisty."
"It took me a while to break her, trust me, Freddie. She's a hard nut to crack, but still the sweetest after all the hard work."
"Well, Meena, I'm gonna call you Mee. Isn't that fantastic?"
"Oh Freddie, you're such a brilliant dork." Larisa said
"Hey, what can I say? Larisa, I got it from below—the devil himself handed it to me. Speaking of the devil, where's that shit-face Adrino?"
"Bull-head, I'm here," Adrino said in a cool tone I hadn't known he had.
He turned as he walked down the stairs, and Fred met him with a friendly handshake.
"Guy, you could've told me she was this beautiful—I could've come prepared with a helmet and a nice outfit. Helmet 'cause of her beauty."
"Well, thankfully I didn't," Adrino said, giving me a quick glance, drinking in my outfit with his eyes.
I looked down: tank top, black shorts, hair in a messy bun.
"Well, um, Meena, get me two glasses of whiskey and go back upstairs—change and brush up that messy hair."
"Okay, sir."
Changed outfit
Later that night.
Everyone judges a beautiful girl by looks, but they forget ugliness can be covered with powder and lip gloss, and pain can be hidden behind a smile—and that smile is a lie.
What did I even do to deserve this life? He acts rude all the time, then says he's sorry.
Can't I just have a normal life? Work like a normal human, feel heartbreak, make friends, eat all the delicacies of life, party all night, make memories, make mistakes, and learn from them?
But here I am—being controlled on how to live, eat, and even dress.
My new mission is to make him tired of me. No more following his number one rules.
Now I'm going to live how I want, decline what I can't do, yell when necessary. If he gets tired, he can send me out.
But the risk? I may win or lose. I may get shot in places I didn't know were killable. I may expose myself and my feelings. I may be left with scars.
But this is the least I can do because what I want more than anything is freedom.
Adrino opened the door, glaring at me as I scribbled in my diary. I quickly dropped it. We gazed deep into each other's souls.
After what felt like an eternity—three minutes—he looked away and walked to my side.
"Meena! What am I gonna do with you?"
"Whatever."
"Must you always reply like that?"
"Must you always question me?"
"Hmm, looks like our new missy has gotten some courage."
"Guess I had it all along but refused to show it."
"Do you know how bad I wanna fuck those words out of your mouth?"
The whole room went dead silent. I whispered, regretting it immediately—
"I dare you."
Without a second glance, he slammed his lips onto mine.
And at that moment—
Darkness enveloped me. The mysteries of the galaxy gave me answers. His dark blue eyes grew darker, his tongue slid into mine, and the spicy mint crashed and melted in my mouth. I savored the glorious flavor, knowing deep down this was the best kiss I'd ever had.
His hand slid from my face down to my neck, yanking my top off.
This was going to be the best moment I'd ever have with anyone.
I closed my eyes as my breath hitched. I swear I stopped breathing for a moment. My chest hardened—these feelings were new and indescribable.
I'd had sex before, but this was different. Was it because I started it? Or because it was him—Adrino Diavolo?
This was a glorious mistake I was making, but in that moment, it felt indescribable.
A soft moan escaped my lips as his mouth landed on my bare neck, sucking hard and leaving a mark.
My hands found his shirt, unbuttoning it, feeling his well-built muscular chest. The mood shifted as he removed my skirt and tore my panties. I knew my lips were swollen—I could feel the weight.
A cold touch brushed my hardened nipple, and I felt like the world belonged to me. His mouth traveled from my breast to my stomach, then to my honey pot, where all the magic began.
He slid his hands to my clit, rubbing it with his thumb. I forgot all the pain I'd been holding—for myself and for him.
I tried to take control, but he said,
"Raven, today is all about you. Don't try to gain control."
I chuckled, the lust thick in the room. He unbuckled his trousers, his cock sprung free. He traced his hands to my mouth, I sucked on his fingers, then spat a handful of juices as he rubbed himself. What did I expect—a meek virgin? This room held two mature sex experts.
I was soaking wet as he slammed into me.
I lost it and moaned loudly—
"FUCK ME!!!!"
I woke up the next morning. I looked over to where he had slept—no one. Only a note and a pack of contraceptives. Does he think family planning isn't working?
Yeah, just like I predicted. He left, just like everyone else.
Tears welled up, uncontrollable. We had shared a mind-blowing moment, and now he left like it was nothing—just nothing.
Mom left like that. I didn't expect him to do anything different.
No thanks. No appreciation. No emotions. I'm just an object. Just like Dad said, "You're worthless—nothing but a burden."
This is why I'm scared to make friends.
Now I have to deal with Larisa. I don't deserve someone as cheerful as her.
I just want to be alone.
My phone pinged. A message popped up:
Hey girl, what's up? Hope you're good.
As I read the message, fresh tears spilled down my cheeks.
I'm so scared of ending up alone.
