Mira pov
It was clear that I put Elizabeth off with the question I just asked so I decided against it
"What do you mean?" she replied
"Nevermind dear. You go first. I just want to take a quick walk and clear my head I'll join you soon" I said as she nodded and left. After ensuring that my clothes were dry and my shoe was clean enough I left the bathroom through another door and just kept roaming the grounds, mindlessly.
I was still trying to understand why Mathew would look so much like my brother, or maybe I was just being paranoid. I came out from the backdoor and walked through the woods till I got to the top of a hill.
Below the hill was a very beautiful lake in its natural habitat. It was surrounded by rocks and beautiful stones. The water was so clear that I could see my reflection in it. I was supposed to be in class but I had forgotten all about school and was fascinated by the lake so I went down the hill and sat at the mouth of the lake, just taking it in. A few animals came by to drink but I just stared into the nothingness, thinking of my brother And smiling at his memories. I didn't even notice when someone sat beside me and I was shocked when he touched me.
"I'm sorry I didn't mean to startle you" He said but i didn't reply. I just realized that I had been crying so I cleaned the tears off my face.
"what's the matter?" he asked but I sniffed. I wasn't in the mood to be disturbed and I didn't like the fact that I had company but there was nothing I could do so I chose to be quiet.
"I am Mathew and you are?"
"Mira" I replied
"oh Mira. we had French class together" he said but I didn't reply and silence fell between us.
Mathew POV
This is a curious girl. She is new and already popular. Videos of her standing up to Alexa is trending all over the school's blog and Alexa is hating the embarrassment. She's already starting to annoy me so I had to get away from her especially as we have the next two classes together.
Walking out of the classroom I smiled as I thought of this new girl. I looked up as I heard footsteps in the woods and I followed the steps curiously. It led me to the most beautiful sight I have ever seen. I saw a girl sitting face to the lake and back to me.
This sight looks very familiar. I've seen that hair before, I've seen that frame before but I can't exactly place it. Where have I seen her before?
I walked up to her and she turned to face me a little startled.
"I'm sorry I didn't mean to startle you" I said. She just nodded and cleaned her tears. She has been crying and she's the prettiest girl I've ever seen in my life.
"What's the matter I asked and she sniffled. Not still looking at me. This girl fascinated me in every way. I am the hottest guy in school and every girl literally wants to throw themselves at me except when Alexa is around so they won't get into trouble with her but this beauty does not even spare me a glance and still she has the air around her like she's carrying a huge burden. I like her confidence but I can still sense her pain.
"I'm Mathew and you are?"
"Mira" she replied
"Oh Mira. We had French class together"
She was silent. And I went silent too.
She just stared at the water and I joined her too. Occasionally throwing rocks in the water till we heard the bell for school over.
"Let's go" I said as I offered my hand. She took it and we went to school together. Alexa came to talk to me in the locker room but she flinched as she saw me beside Mira. she was seething with rage.
"Thanks" she whispered before going to her locker. I stood for a few seconds staring at her and smiling, I think I'm already falling in lo...
"Ouch what was what for" I quarried Jake for interrupting my thoughts
"What are you staring at? I've been calling you but you didn't answer. Let's go for practice" he said hitting me lightly and I followed them.
All through the practice my mind never left her. I felt this strange sense of familiarity and connection to this girl that I was meeting for the first time today. It feels like I've met her before but I can't place it. I tried as much as possible to make it through basketball practice with Alexa and her little band cheering us on as we practiced.
Soon I was in the locker room changing with my guys when I began to have this nagging feeling. I had this feeling that something was going wrong somewhere but I couldn't place it.
"Mathew still up for video games" Jason nudged me while I was brushing my hair by my locker feeling restless.
"Oh sorry ja, i have to take a raincheck. Something came up" I replied slinging my one arm bag over my shoulders and grabbing my car keys.
"Too bad" Jason replied shaking his head as he left and I walked down to my car briskly. Unfortunately Alexa was waiting for me by my car. She opened the front door and slid into the passenger seat as soon as I opened my car. I got into the driver's seat and started the car.
"That was a good game" she said throwing her arms around me before I could start driving.
"Thanks babe" I replied pecking her cheeks
"Babe you have to do something about that new girl if you don't I'll take matters into my hands" she started tattling on.
".....she can't just humiliate me and get away with it. I rule. I own this school and my boyfriend is the biggest boy in this school. We should be feared. She has no right to step on my toes and get away with it"
I hummed keeping my eyes on the road and trying hard to fight back the nagging feeling that something could be wrong because I couldn't place it.
" You'll come to the mansion with me right? We can study together, have sex and go to school together tomorrow"
"I'm sorry lex, not today. I have something to do" I replied.
Her home was just around the corner so I dropped her off five minutes later and sped off the highway. I haven't been driving for over thirty minutes when I saw a sign board to my left.
"In construction, keep off!"
I had a very strong urge to follow the sign board and soon I was driving the rough road that led to the construction site. Sure enough I could sight the blue sports car that was holding me up earlier in the day, so I parked behind it.
In front of me was a two story building that looked like it would fall at any moment. There were cracks on the wall, woods and nails all over. My heart skipped a beat because I know damn well that she was inside. I went into the building with great difficulty. I pulled planks out of the way and practically ran inside. She was nowhere to be found on the first floor. I searched everywhere for her on the first floor but I couldn't find her. I skipped two steps at a time and by the time I got to the steps leading to the next floor I saw her sitting on the stairs and crying, holding a framed photo. This time my heart skipped two beats. I couldn't bear to see her in so much pain.
