Chapter 4 - Crash on you

Mathew POV

In front of me was a two story building that looked like it would fall at any moment. There were cracks on the wall, woods and nails all over. My heart skipped a beat because I know damn well that she was inside. I went into the building with great difficulty. I pulled planks out of the way and practically ran inside. She was nowhere to be found on the first floor. I searched everywhere for her on the first floor but I couldn't find her. I skipped two steps at a time and by the time I got to the steps leading to the next floor I saw her sitting on the stairs and crying, holding a framed photo. This time my heart skipped two beats. I couldn't bear to see her in so much pain.

"What's the matter Mira" I asked softly as I put my hands on her shoulder. She shouldered as she looked up and blinked her tears away.

"you shouldn't be here" she said but I ignored her and wiped the tears off her pretty face. I held her gaze for a few minutes, urging her to talk to me without saying any word and as if she was just waking up from a trance she jerked and lifted her hands to trace my face. I shivered as she did that.

"You have his eyes" she blotted looks back at the picture in her hands and tracing it to. I blinked, a little bit confused

"Wha... what do you mean" I asked as confused as ever.

"You have his blue eyes" she said. Looking at both my eyes in awe

"Wh..who?"

"My brother. You look just like my brother see" she sniffled pointing at the frame.

" Where.... where is your brother?" I asked concerned, trying to place where I have seen that face before

"He's Dead. He died in California" she replied.

California. I have a history in California. I myself lived in California before moving to New York. I moved after doing something very bad. The memory still haunts me to this day. Wait...that's where I've seen her before and that's where I've been the boy in the picture too. The realization struck me. I remember pointing the gun at her. She was one year younger and full of life. Laughing happily and pulling her brother before I was forced to pull the trigger.

I looked up sharply as the building above us began to crack and fall. I didn't have time to show any emotions I have to get her out of this place

" Let's leave" I said softly but her face was buried in her laps. I noticed her skin it was beautiful. The building gave way and fell to my side, blocking our way down the stairs. The stairs was cracking this time. About to give away any moment from now.

"Mira we need to leave now" I shouted. Hoping to get a response but she replied softly

"just leave. I don't want to see my therapist today. I want to actually feel my pain" she said crying.

My heart felt heavy. I hated seeing her this way. I was angry that I was the reason she was feeling this pain. But I couldn't bring myself to confess this to her at least not yet. this is definitely not a good time.

"Mira you can cry on me. You can share your pains with me...." I tried to reason "....but we need to leave here now if not you'll get hurt" I concluded, trying to persuade her to leave but I couldn't. I couldn't believe the girl that was so strong and so peaceful in the morning could be so sad and broken this evening. She didn't even care if she got hurt. I saw her stand up for herself in the cafeteria today and I was impressed, but I couldn't deal with the way she was feeling right now. Not with the guilt eating me from within.

It didn't take long before the building gave way and down we went together. She landed on the floor first and I fell on her to prevent the weight of the building from going down on her. Thank goodness the distance from the floor and the stairs was not too long so she shouldn't be too hurt and the ground she fell was clear of nails and woods. I felt a very strong urge to protect her. I couldn't let the walls and wood fall on top of her so I carried the weight on top of her. My lips touched hers slightly as we fell on each other and the feeling was heavenly. I opened my eyes wide but her's was closed peacefully. I've never kissed a random girl before. I didn't even entertain such thoughts but I loved the feeling of her lips on mine. She was unconscious and bleeding from the head but we were trapped together in a falling building that looked like it would catch fire any moment from now. The siren could be heard from a distance, thank goodness the ambulance is on the way. A passerby must have seen the danger and called the police. The fire team was able to evacuate us from the building. News reporters were everywhere trying to report the crash that just happened but my body was killing me. Eventually we were evacuated and rushed to the nearest hospital to receive treatment.
