Chapter 4 - Bad luck?

Bambi couldn't believe her bad luck. The guy she actually ran into turned out to be the literal heir of Liberty Corporation!

Not only that, but it seemed that this guy had a less than stellar reputation of treating his employees like they were disposable tissues!

And she had rudely barged into his private room. People have been fired for less!

She immediately pulled on the strings of her hoodie, hoping that the guy wouldn't recognize her from the stage.

Meanwhile, Nessa took the mic once again and the lights dimmed more, as if showing that whatever she was going to say next was very important.

"Now, aside from celebrating my birthday and this company's jubilee, there is one more thing that I need to announce."

As soon as she said those words, Mark leaned forward on the table.

"See? Lionel's going to be announced as the heir!" he said.

"Oh god no," Potter muttered, holding her mouth in despair.

Bambi, on the other hand, felt the same as Potter. She couldn't imagine the man she bumped into becoming the CEO of the company. If he did, then her job was even more on the line than it was before!

Everyone in their tables started whispering to each other, gossiping about whatever the Nessa Liberty was going to say.

And from the way that everyone started to look at Lionel, it seemed that the rumor of his succession had already spread far and wide in the office circles.

There were even some guys who started to shake Lionel's hand, congratulating him for his promotion.

The man himself, Lionel, nodded in satisfaction as he looked around the room. There was a look of expectation in his face, as if he was about to achieve something that he'd been destined to achieve.

And it was at that moment that his grandmother looked at him.

They made eye contact, before Nessa subtly shook her head.

"I just want to say to everyone that even in my advanced age, I will still be managing this company until I find a suitable inheritor, or I die in my office—whichever comes first. Thank you."

As soon as she said those bombshell words, Nessa walked out of the stage being escorted by her bodyguards.

There was a parse collection of awkward clapping all around as she exited.

Meanwhile, Lionel was left shocked on the table, unable to move. There was a look of betrayal and confusion on his face, before embarrassment overshadowed everything.

Now, everyone started gossiping to each other.

"Woah…Lionel's not going to be the heir?"

"She said she hasn't found a suitable heir. That's basically saying she doesn't think Lionel has what it takes!"

"Damn. I kinda feel sorry for the guy."

"You better thank your lucky stars. Would you imagine what would happen to our department if Lionel became CEO? He'll fire us all under the guise of budget cuts!"

"Shhh! Keep your voices down."

It was at that moment that everyone saw Nessa walk over to her only grandchild. She bent down and whispered in his ears.

"You're still too immature for this, Lionel. I've told you multiple times that you need to settle down and meet a nice girl, start a family. You see, building a company is like nurturing a relationship. You clearly have no idea what that's like," Nessa said, pursing her lips like a disappointed parent.

She then gently tapped his shoulders and fixed his collar and tie.

"Do I have to clean up everything for you all the time?" she asked before leaving with her bodyguards.

Nobody but the two of them knew what was said during the conversation. But it was clear to everyone that whatever she said, seemed to make Lionel very angry. His fist was balled up, with an indignant look on his face.

He stood up and fixed his coat before turning to the crowd, who had been gossiping behind his back.

They all turned silent, looking away from his gaze.

And it was at that moment that Lionel saw a glimpse of movement further down the room.

He saw a person in a hoodie, covering their face and briskly walking out of the room.

He recognized her. She was the one who rudely barged into his room and completely ruined his mood.

A smile formed on his face, before he turned to one of his advisors.

"I need you to find an employee for me," he whispered, before turning his back and leaving the party.

And as everything settled down and Lionel left the room, table 42 felt the tension finally cease.

"Woah…that was unexpected," Potter said. "We're lucky, aren't we Bee?"

But as she turned to look at Bambi, she realized that the chair was completely empty.

The only thing left behind in her seat was her company ID.

The next day, Bambi opened her eyes wide open as the sun shone directly on her face.

She jumped out of her bed in a hurry before immediately turning to her personal computer right next to her bed.

Her hands furiously typed on the keyboard as she logged into her company account.

As she reached the website, her eyes nervously scanned the page, searching for something, until finally, she saw her name on the list of employees.

[Bambi Bourden]

[Senior Online Correspondent]

As soon as she saw those words, Bambi let out a scream of excitement that shook the entire house.

"YESSSSS!"

Bambi did her little dance, pumping her hands and moving her hips.

It wasn't a dream. Yesterday happened.

She got the promotion that she's always wanted! She was now a Senior Online Correspondent, which meant that she could create her own articles without being supervised by anybody else!

Not only that, but her previous monthly salary of $1300 would now be bumped up to $2000! That would be a massive help to her and her family!

It was just then that the door in her room burst wide open, and a dark-haired woman with terrible bed hair came stomping inside. She wore mismatched pajamas, just like Bambi's.

This was none other than Bambi's older sister, Olivia.

"Oh my god. Will you keep it down? Someone's trying to sleep over here," Olivia said, stifling a yawn and rubbing her eyes.

Bambi immediately rushed to Olivia and gave her a big hug.

"I got the job!"
