Chapter 2 - "The System's Challenge, Riku's Wits."

-----

-----

"Yes," the system replied coldly.

In an instant, the virtual map only Riku could see became far more detailed. It now showed the territories of all major factions.

And unsurprisingly, the best Diamond-level treasure chests were all in the most dangerous places:– The lair of the Dragons, ranked 4th among all races.– The stronghold of the mutated Demon Lord, from the 2nd-ranked fantasy race.– The capital city of the 5th-ranked Giant race.

Platinum chests were also located in the capitals or lairs of other powerful races.

Gold, Silver, and Bronze chests, at least, weren't nearly as risky.

But one chest made Riku's eyes narrow—A dazzling rainbow-colored chest located in the headquarters of the 6th-ranked race: the Flügel.

These creatures were known as living weapons of war. They had once even killed members of the top-ranked god-race. And now, hundreds of them guarded this base—each one a so-called "god-slaying weapon."

Worse still, their HQ was located in a place ruled by Avant Heim, a fantasy race ranked second only to the gods.

Still, none of that was the scariest part. The true top of this world's food chain was:

The Old Deus, ranked first.Artosh, the God of War.

As the literal embodiment of the concept of "War", Artosh had slain countless enemies for millions of years. Undisputed as the strongest being alive—the King of Kings, the God of Gods.

Avant Heim, that super-dangerous fantasy race, was his apostle. And the god-slaying Flügel? Artosh created them himself.

So yeah... Avant Heim, the place with the rainbow chest? Easily the deadliest place in the world. Not even close.

"Hah, well damn... that's some next-level difficulty," Riku smirked, eyes narrowing with interest.

The chests were supposed to be randomly scattered—true—but that clearly only applied to the lower tiers. The higher-tier ones were very much placed with purpose: the more dangerous the location, the higher the reward.

Chests refreshed over time, sure. But the catch?

– Diamond chests: refresh every three years– Platinum: once a year– Rainbow chest? Never.

Gold refreshed every six months, Silver every three, and Bronze once a month.

"Alright, I get the general idea. Hey system, do I get some kind of newbie gift box or something?" Riku asked casually.

"No."

"Figures." Riku just nodded, not at all disappointed, and looked over at the bronze treasure chest that had just appeared next to him. He gave a small smile. "Well, talk about good luck. It actually spawned right in my room."

Then, he placed his hand on the chest.

In an instant, the chest opened, and a glowing orb floated out from inside.

Ding! Congratulations, host, for opening a Bronze Treasure Chest. You've received the item: Imperial Arms – Dimensional Formation: Shangri-La.

Imperial Arms – Dimensional Formation: Shangri-La, from Akame ga Kill!, lets the user plant spatial coordinates and teleport to them. Using it consumes both mental and physical energy. Its ultimate move can exile people into another dimension.

"Nice, talk about a lucky first draw." Riku looked at the purple compass-shaped item in his hand and nodded in satisfaction.

He knew Akame ga Kill! pretty well, and the Imperial Arms called Shangri-La was one he was really familiar with. In his opinion, Shangri-La's teleportation ability was way more valuable than powers that just made you stronger. After all, in this world full of ridiculously powerful people, getting strong wasn't enough—if you're not at the top, you're always in danger.

But now that he had Shangri-La, collecting treasure chests and relocating would be way easier.

Ding! Detected item: Imperial Arms – Dimensional Formation: Shangri-La. Would you like to recycle it, or store it in your inventory?

The system's robotic voice chimed in again.

"What do you mean by recycle? And what's the inventory? Explain both." Riku asked calmly.

"Recycle means exchanging valuable items for equivalent exchange points, which can be used to purchase treasure chests. Inventory is your personal item storage space. You currently have five cubic meters, which will expand as you open more treasure chests."

After that, the system stopped explaining and displayed a virtual screen.

Exchange System: Use exchange points to buy treasure chests.

Basic Chest: 1,000 points

Fine Chest: 5,000 points

Superior Chest: 20,000 points

Supreme Chest: 100,000 points

God-tier Chest: 500,000 points

To break it down: the basic, fine, and superior chests can drop all kinds of items and abilities. The higher the tier, the better your odds of getting something great. Each type also has a cap on how good the loot can get.

As for the Supreme and God-tier chests, those are guaranteed to give amazing stuff—even rare things like powerful bloodlines.

Of course, they cost a fortune. But if a bronze chest can give out an Imperial Arms, then hey... maybe the prices are worth it? Hopefully?
