Chapter 2 - chapter 2

"No! You conniving bastards! I swear I'll make you pay for this!" Elena seethed inwardly, her glare burning into Jack.

"Why, dear? Weren't you the one who wanted me to run your company? That's why I'm speeding up the process," Jack said without any guilt.

Elena pressed her thumb into the ink pad, then onto the power of attorney document, sealing the fate of the company with a single print.

Jack and Jessica laughed in satisfaction as the ownership of the largest corporation across two continents was officially transferred into Jack's hands.

"I know you have insurance worth a lot of money, as a dutiful wife to your husband you must give it to me too," Jack said with an artificially sympathetic face.

Jessica replied. "Exactly, and my father would have a good laugh if he knew that the only daughter of his late competitor was destroyed by me. Then I will make history that people from Bellarogi always manage to get rid of people from Navoly."

Elena's mouth tightened, the gnashing of her teeth signalling the overwhelming rage held within her now paralysed body. She finally knew that her father's killer was Jessica's father, all this time Elena had been searching and only now was the truth revealed. But it all seemed to be in vain as Elena's body was already helpless due to the paralysis and stroke.

Jessica took an injection and some medicine from her bag, Elena didn't know what it was but she had a feeling it was something bad.

"Excuse me."

Elena felt that her saviour had arrived, Edward, her loyal personal assistant, Edward came in with a serious look on his face, hiding his displeasure with Jack and Jessica. It seemed that Edward already had the idea that Jack and Jessica had no good intentions towards Elena.

"What are you doing here? Do you want to bothering my wife now?" Jack asked sharply.

"As Mistress Elena's personal assistant, I have a duty—and a promise—to protect her at all costs," Edward said with quiet resolve.

Jack looked uncomfortable as Jessica quickly tucked the syringe into her bag. The woman chuckled softly and glanced at Jack to give him an implicit message of her displeasure at Edward's arrival. Of course Jack understood and acted immediately.

"I have full authority over my wife, you better get out right now, I can take good care of my wife," Jack said, moving his hand towards the exit, signalling Edward to leave.

Elena immediately tried to speak, but all she could do was move her eyeballs, her voice could not come out either, only a sound of her breath could be heard, and even that was soft. Elena cursed the misfortune she was experiencing now, she desperately wanted to ask Edward for help, but what power her whole body could not function properly.

"We heard a commotion coming from the room of a patient named Mrs. Elena. I am the attending physician responsible for her care, and I must ask that you refrain from violating hospital visitor policies—for the sake of everyone's comfort and order within this facility."

In the midst of the heated debate, a doctor and a nurse appeared at the door of the room. Elena felt that this could be another favour to her, hoping that the doctor would see the situation in the right light.

"I'm sorry Doctor, but I've been trying to get this man out of the room where my wife is being treated, but he keeps insisting and disturbing our peace," Jack said before Edward.

Edward immediately refuted Jack's words. "No, I am Mrs Elena's personal assistant. I just took the initiative to help Mrs Elena and visit her. And it just so happened that I almost caught an act that endangered Mrs Elena."

The two people standing next to Elena's ward were instantly pale and tense, not realising that Edward had seen what they were doing.

"What do you mean, how could I do something bad to someone I love?" Jack denied in for his defence.

"I saw the woman who was with Mr Jack take out an injection, if she is not a medical staff then it is not in accordance with the rules of the hospital. Why would you bring such a device here and inject it into Mrs Elena? You have to admit that," Edward said, pointing his finger at Jessica.

Immediately Jessica jumped in shock, she looked at Jack and then spoke.

"No, that's wrong, I didn't bring anything like that here. It must be a mistake... You have the heart to slander me, what do you mean?"

Elena was furious, Jessica was very good at pretending that she was the underdog here, even though it was clear that Jessica and Jack were planning something evil against Elena.

"That's enough, I don't want any more trouble here. And sir, you shouldn't bother the patient's family. The patient's family has full rights over Mrs Elena. Now you'd better follow me out of this room if you don't want to be dragged away by hospital security," the doctor said.

Elena was confused, Edward was now her only hope. But just as she was about to scream, she realised that there was nothing for her body to do but lie down.

Edward was forced to leave the room, his face angry and disappointed, unlike Jack who smiled with satisfaction at the doctor's stupidity in not believing Edward's story. Edward tried to resist, but in reality he was being dragged away by the security guards the doctor had called.

"Good, the doctor did the right thing, we can go ahead with our plan," Jessica said.

"Right, this loser is out of here. Now it's time for us to take Elena to her final resting place," Jack said with a grin.

Elena wanted to fight so badly that she closed her eyes tightly. She was so scared, but no one could know her heart right now.

Please move my body, no one can save me now but me. Elena thought and tried to move her body.

"Don't worry, my love. This poison won't make you sick for long," Jack said without feeling the slightest sympathy for Elena.

Elena became more and more frightened as the syringe moved closer to her veins. And when the needle pierced her skin, Elena felt an excruciating pain in her body.

Elena's eyes rounded, her body convulsed, Elena could only scream in her heart. Her body hurt so much that she lost her life in that moment.

"I wish I had another chance… I'd avenge you—until not a single one of them remains," Elena thought bitterly, before letting her eyes fall shut.
