# Chapter 44 – Vanessa (POV): The Moonstone Trial
"Don't touch it." Gerald said that really loud. "You can't change your mind after."
I was right in front of this altar thing. The Moonstone of Truth was so close I could grab it. It was glowing silver and calling me. My wolf inside was going nuts.
"I know what I'm doing." I didn't look at Gerald when I said it.
These old ruins were all around us. They looked like giant broken teeth. The walls had weird carvings and they were crumbling. This place was old. Really old. Older than anyone in our pack. Older than any wolf alive.
Gerald came closer. His boots made noise on the rocks. "The old stories say this trial shows you things. Bad things. Things that'll mess you up."
I finally looked at him. His green eyes looked scared. I never saw Gerald scared before. "You think I'm too weak?"
"No." He shook his head fast. "I think you're too strong. I think you'll see stuff and it'll change who you are."
