# Chapter 40 - The Letter Sent, The War Begins

"You sure about this, Alpha?"
Jake looked at the letter in my hands. His face was worried.
"No. But I have to try."
The letter to Vanessa was finished. Three pages telling her everything. About the prophecy. About Nanisa working with the Shadow Council. About the danger coming for her.
"What if she doesn't believe you? What if she thinks it's a trap?"
"Then she dies. And we all die with her."
I sealed the letter with wax. Pressed my ring into it. If Vanessa got this, she'd know it really came from me.
"Who's gonna deliver it?" Jake asked.
"Old Marcus. The rogue who lives by the river. He knows how to find people who don't want to be found."
"Can you trust him?"
"I have to. He's the only one who might be able to reach her."
I handed Jake the letter. "Take this to Marcus. Tell him it's life or death. He'll understand."
Jake nodded and left. I was alone in my office.
