Chapter 3 - [3]

Hammond made transferring the money to me a very quick affair, the bank even sent a manager to verify that the amount promised was transferred to my checking account.

A lawyer was our next guest at the digsite and he brought three inch stacks of papers for us to sign, situational NDA's and all that.

There was a large stipulation in them that we are not allowed to photograph the attractions, or bring any form of recording device, not even a tape recorder.

After that we split off to our respective campsite abodes to pack, granted Dad and I were ready to go the fastest, as we always keep our over the shoulder messenger bags, with a few changes of clothes, some dry rations of jerky, granola bars, and a large thermos of water, because every now and then he gets calls from a colleague halfway around the world over an interesting find that they want him to come take a look at and consult on or take over the dig fully.

Unlike my dad though I don't go anywhere without at least a solid blade, so I put my…my predecessor's ridiculously large Bowie knife on at the small of my back, its sheath turned sideways.

Standing outside of the idling helicopter I watch as Ellie carries a massive bag on her shoulder, while dragging along two rather large wheeled behind her, 'Jesus Ellie is such a girl at the strangest times, but seriously is she bringing a whole year's worth of clothes and whatnot with her? How she even managed to fit enough stuff into her tiny airstream, to fill those three bags…is a feat…unmatched by modern science.' I joke in my mind as I jog over and take the suitcases from her and carry them.

"Thank you Alec." Ellie thanks me genuinely, and I shoot her a smile and a nod, before saying, "No problem El."

The trip back to the helicopter was rather quick, but dad is giving me a dirty look for some reason, 'Well if you wanted to carry your twenty three year old "co-worker's" bags you could have walked over and grabbed them, cradle robber.' I complain in my thoughts, as the assistant pilot has/helps me load Ellie's suitcases into a cargo space in the copter.

Getting in the copter I sit next to Ellie and Dad sits next to Hammond, in the seat directly across from Ellie, Dad in usual fashion can't get the seatbelt to click so he leaves it off, and so do I but both John and Ellie buckle up, Ellie sighs reaches over and buckles me into my seat.

Making me snicker, "Thanks Mom." I snicker in a teasing way but Ellie gains a slight rosyness to her cheeks, but doesn't say anything to me and turns to look out the window.

'Okay…that was a little weird.'

The flight to the plane was rather quick, we got onto a large private jet that has private cabins, "You all may rest if you'd like…I'd recommend it, once we arrive at the island, I highly doubt the three of you will want to lose any time to enjoy it, sleeping." Hammond says in a mix of joviality and arrogance, Dad makes a snort of annoyance but Ellie rolls her eyes, takes his hand and drags him off to a cabin…

It doesn't take long for muffled ohh's, grunts, and the sounds of bodies smacking together, to flitter out of the cabin Dad and Ellie slunk off to.

"Haa, those two are rather energetic, aren't they?" Hammond expresses almost a little too happy sounding at what is going on, on his plane…

"Yip, I'm going to try and sleep." I reply to Hammond popping the p of my yip and walking to the furthest cabin from Dad and Ellie.

Entering inside immediately shutting and locking the door behind me, 'Its really happening I'm going to Jurassic Park, this is so fucking cool, I haven't felt so happy to be alive…in well along time!' I express in my head and let myself fall onto the twin sized bed.

Surprisingly once I get comfortable and shut my eyes, that's it I'm asleep…which doesn't happen, I usually toss and turn for four to five hours and then by some miracle actually fall asleep.

I wake up to the feeling of the plane touching down, which has me being thrown from the bed onto the floor.

Rolling over onto my front, I begin to push myself up from the floor, "Fuck, aren't the pilots or whoever, supposed to make sure passengers are secured in seats before landing the damned plane?!" I grunt out a curse as I stand up from the floor a kink in my neck from the rough landing, that works itself out in a few moments.

Pushing myself to my feet, looking around making sure nothing slid out of my bag and that my knife is still in place.

Finding everything is as it should be I exit the cabin I had used for my nap, finding everyone else is just starting to get ready to get off of the private jet.

Costa Rican officials met us right at the jet to stamp our passports then it was just a quick walk to a helicopter that was already warming up its engine.

The whole process between landing getting off of the plane, getting our passports looked at by the Costa Rican officials and getting on the Helicopter that would take us to the island took all of ten minutes, something I am immensely grateful for as, the heat down here is a sticky wet, humid heat, nothing like the dry pleasantness of the badlands.

A little surprise waiting for us is that Doctor Ian Malcom and Donald Gennaro are in the Helicopter that is covered in Ingen logos by the time we reach it.

Ian, is a good looking man of maybe fortyish, and is dressed all in black, except for his alligator skin shoes and his Ray-Ban sunglasses, he is holding a book in his hand and unlike the movie where he immediately thirsts over Ellie he seems too engrossed in whatever he's reading to register us, while Gennaro is looking over thick stacks of papers, while dressed in safari clothes, everything straight from Banana Republic.

I feel myself kinda dancing in my seat, right knee bouncing in excitement, much to Ellie's amusement and Dad's questioning look, but damnit I'm just so excited and I just can't hide it, I'm about to see fucking dinosaurs…even if a lot of people are going to die, fucking dinosaurs.

"If you are a measure to go by young mister Grant, I am assured of my park's success." Hammond suddenly speaks up as the island starts to become visible.

I try not to scoff at that, 'Bro, your park never gets off the ground, Masrani on the other hand…makes probably billions off of it.' I think but then an idea comes to me, 'I could probably help the park come to fruition…using my abilities.' I think but shrug and reply to John.

"If the rumors that I've heard about what ingen has been working on are true…which they probably are since you recruited my father and Ellie…I don't think you'll be able to keep people away." I confess honestly and receive questioning looks from all three of them.

"What do you mean son, what rumors?" Dad asks me.

"Okay so you know my last year in vocational school?" I ask my dad and he nods.

"Well, my teachers…let slip that Ingen is working on a sort of de-extinction project…no specifics were mentioned of course…but one of my teacher's siblings is a geneticist…that works for Ingen." I lie like a pro.

"Oh my, I must certainly remind my employees of their non disclosure agreement's, thank you for bringing this to my attention whether you meant to or not." Hammond looks like he just ate a cow patty, as he says those words, making me shrug as it isn't dampening my excitement in the least.

This seems to pull Malcolm out of his reading, "So you two dig up dinosaurs?" Malcom looks at dad, but only spares a mere glance in Ellie's direction and doesn't even seem to register me at all.

"We try to!" Dad replies back tersely while shooting a glance at Hammond.

Which makes Malcolm laugh, finding Dad's annoyance very amusing, which confuses Dad of course, Hammond turns towards Ian with an annoyed expression on his face.

"You'll have to get used to Dr. Malcolm! He suffers from a deplorable excess of personality, especially for a mathematician!" Hammond snarks and a chuckle slips out of me, that draws everyone's attention to me.

Malcolm smirks at me, "Chaotician, actually! Chaotician!" He says it at first to me and leans around Ellie to shake my hand, which I return while,

Hammond snorts contentiously, not even bothering to cover his contempt for Malcolm, which makes Malcolm's smirking smile, that he's shooting towards me widen before he winking at me and turns in John's direction.

This is pretty sus attitude for Malcom…then again he loves kids…I think, that's what he says in the movie…anyways…maybe he just said that so he could try and get in Ellie's pants though.'

"You'll have to excuse John, he doesn't subscribe to Chaos, particularly what it has to say about his little science project!" Ian snarks.

"Codswollop! Ian, you've never come close to explaining these concerns you have about my island!" Hammond raises his voice, though it seems like volume goes hand in hand with dishonesty, as I doubt Malcom would hold back his opinions on anything.

Dad looks annoyed to be caught up in what seems to be a long standing argument, Ellie is trying not to laugh and the blood sucking lawyer is happily ignoring everyone whilst looking over his papers.

"John, I most certainly have! Very clearly! Because of the behavior of the systems in phase space!" Malcolm says and I'm happy to see that Dad and Ellie are just as confused as I am about his strange use of vocabulary.

Hammond grunts out in exasperation and waves Malcolm off, "That is a load of cow manure, it is all just fashionable number crunching, that¹s all it is!" Hammond says in what I assume to be his closest expression to cursing, while Malcom leans forward and pokes at Hammond's knee.

"John, John." The sheer annoyance that Malcom can make one experience is amazing, Hammond

pushes Malcom's offending finger away, "Don't do that!" Hammond hollers in anger.

Malcom looks to me, and I can tell he's looking for my name, "Alec Grant." I introduce myself to the man, he looks between me, Ellie and Dad and goes "huh."

"I thought you were her little brother." Malcom confesses which makes me shrug while Ellie looks mortified, 'That might be why he didn't flirt with her…'

"So I'm sure Dr. Grant, Dr. Sattler have heard of Chaos Theory, have you heard of Chaos Theory?" Malcom asks me, but Ellie speaks up, wanting some attention I'm sure.

"No, I haven't heard anything about Chaos Theory." Ellie says whilst shaking her head no.

"No? Non-linear equations? Strange attractions?" Malcom asks, 'Oh god…it's happening.' I think as Ellie shrugs, in a way that conveys her lack of knowledge.

"Dr. Sattler, I refuse to believe that you are not familiar with the concept of attraction!" Malcom sleezily says with a snake oil sails men grin.

'It's even worse in real life, dude come on…no Ellie don't bat your eyes and giggle! He's not funny, or charming…he's sad…' I think and look at dad who just rolls his eyes as Malcolm gives his girlfriend an oily grin, but Ellie smiles luxuriating in the attention and maybe, enjoying dad's jealousy filled scowl.

Hammond turns to Gennaro and gives him a dirty look, "I bring scientists, you bring a rock star!" Gennaro shrugs, uncaring of the plight he has brought upon all of us, Hammond turns in his seat and looks out of the windshield, and claps his hands excitedly, and cheers, "There it is! Up ahead." There is small gasp of appreciation from beside me I smile at Ellie's ability to find such wonder in seeing a lush landmass.

"This is Isla Nublar." John Hammond says with his own sense of wonder in his voice, even Dad seemed mystified by the island for a few seconds, to me the island itself is just a smallish island, completely ringed by tall mountains, thick clouds that help give it a lush, mysterious feel.
