Chapter 6 - Chapter 6 - The forbidden party and the trapped door

•••Night came when the halls of Haul Academy buzzed with an uneasy quiet after the morning's classes.

Whispers echoed off the walls, remnants of a recent trauma of Sophie's tragic death.

The school authority had issued stern warnings: notices plastered in every hallway and the headmaster's announcement barely muffled any lingering fear....Yet, amid this tension, a group of rebellious students decided to throw a secret party that very week.

Hidden in the decrepit old gymnasium, the air would soon thrum with the pulse of music, laughter, and the clink of smuggled soda cans as these determined youths defied the curfew with reckless attitudes.

Despite hearing tantalizing whispers earlier that day about the clandestine gathering, Rossie remained on the fringes, her mind still reeling from Becky's shocking revelation about Mr. Harl and his alleged connection to dark forces.

The mystery weighed heavily on her, urging her to keep her distance. But as midnight approached, a nagging unease pulled at her thoughts, compelling her toward the gym.

Something felt off, and curiosity battled with trepidation in her mind.

Inside, the party was in full swing.

Dim lights cast wild shadows on the walls, illuminating faces painted with exhilaration and a hint of defiance.

Rossie's eyes scanned the crowd until she saw Michael at the back of the gym, laughing with Angela. Their heads were close together as she leaned in, whispering something that made him grin widely.

A pang of jealousy twisted in Rossie's chest, but before she could approach them, a sudden, deafening crack reverberated through the gym, silencing the music and laughter in an instant.

The gym's ancient wooden doors propped open moments ago to let in a cool breeze - the door slammed shut with a force that shook the walls.

A cacophony of terrified screams erupted as those trapped inside realized the weights of the doors seemed to warp and twist as if alive, sealing them within.

Panic surged as students pounded on the doors, their frantic efforts futile the handles melted into the frame, rendering them useless.

Rossie's heart raced as she pushed through the throng, desperation lending her strength. "Michael! Angela!" she shouted, her voice barely piercing the rising chaos.

She caught a glimpse of them near the far wall while Angela tugged at a jammed side exit while Michael tried to pry the main doors open.

The air grew thick with the scent of jasmine, an unsettling reminder of the garden's influence.

"Is this the garden's doing," Rossie muttered, her hand instinctively reaching for the moonflower tucked away in her satchel.

Becky - wide-eyed beside her, grabbed Rossie's arm, her voice trembling.

"Rossie, do something! If Harl's behind this, it's only going to get worse!"

Nodding, Rossie felt a new determination surge through her.

"I have to summon the Gardener." Closing her eyes, she clutched the moonflower tightly, its petals glowing faintly in response to her grasp.

She inhaled deeply, allowing the panic around her to fade into background noise as she whispered into the chaos,

"Please! I need you! They're trapped - Michael's trapped! Everyone is trapped….please help us!"

For a moment, nothing happened. The air was heavy, filled with screams and panic.

Rossie's heart sank in despair threatening to overwhelm her. Then suddenly, a swirling mist curled through the room, gathering in the corners before coalescing into a figure.

The Midnight Gardener emerged from the shadows near the warped doors, his long coat billowing around him as a wide-brimmed hat cast a dark silhouette over his face. Only rossie could see the figure.

In his gloved hands he held a luminescent bloom, its soft light radiating warmth amidst the chill of fear.

"Well, well," he said, his voice sounds smooth and teasing despite the backdrop of chaos.

"She calls again. What mess has she dragged me into this time?"

"Help them!" Rossie pleaded, her breath hitching as she gestured toward Michael and Angela who were now banging on the side exit, their faces pale with fear.

"The doors they're alive, like the garden has taken over! Please, get them out!"

The moonlight Gardener tilted his head, an enigmatic smile playing on his lips as he observed the frantic scene.

taking a step toward the main doors.

"A party after warnings? Bold, but foolish. Still…" He raised a gloved hand, and the luminescent bloom pulsed brighter, casting a golden light that spread like warm honey over the warped wooden surface.

The groaning of the doors ceased, and slowly, they began to unwarp, the handles reshaping themselves with a creaking sigh.

Students stumbled back in shock as the oppressive energy lifted like a heavy shroud.

With a final click, the exit swung open, and Michael emerged first, coughing, closely followed by Angela, whose expression was a mix of relief and lingering fear.

"Rossie!" Michael called, his voice filled with disbelief and gratitude.

"What the hell was that?"

"i really don't know yet," she replied, her voice tight with anxiety as she glanced back at the faint glow of the bloom.

•••••••••••••

The Gardener turned to Rossie while others couldn't see him ,his gaze lingering with an unsettling mixture of approval and caution.

"There are things you must know Rossie , taking a step back to vanish . "The wrath isn't satisfied yet" They tempted its will, and it remembers.

With that, he faded into the fog, the bloom left behind extinguishing its luminous glow as the chaotic energy of the gym fell silent.

Michael approached, confusion etched across his features, his brow furrowed. "Thanks, Rossie. I don't know what we'd have done without… you.

No , not me , she said.

Oh, so who ? Michael asked.

But why is this happening? Why are we being punished for wanting to have a little fun?" Michael added.

Rossie cast a wary glance at Angela, who avoided her eyes, clearly shaken.

"It's tied to the garden and maybe Mr. Harl too.

We need to figure this out, together. We can't let this happen again."

Where's Becky ? Michael asked

She'll be here soon..rossie replied.

The party's remnants lay scattered around them, a stark reminder of their reckless choices. The air crackled with tension and unspoken fears, trapping Rossie in a web of uncertainty.

She sensed a strange power that had now unleashed, and was only beginning to show its true face.

More than just a force of nature, it felt like a living entity, intertwining their fates in ways they couldn't yet grasp.

As Rossie scanned the crowd, the weight of her newfound role settled upon her. She was not just a bystander; she was a part of this unfolding mystery, a bearer of secrets with the help of the mysterious moonlight gardner.

Her gaze fell on the faces of her friends , confusion, fear, and that shadow of dread that signaled they sensed the danger too.

She became the alpha of the moment ; everyone was grateful for her help though they do not understand how she helped them.

A group of students began to murmur among themselves, their expressions growing increasingly anxious.

"What do we do now?" one of them asked, his voice trembling.

"Are we in danger?"

"Yes," Rossie stated firmly, her tone brokering no argument.

"We've awakened something powerful, and we need to appease it or it will come for us again."

With a collective sense of purpose but we all violated the school order.

They all formed a group and pulled closer together, forming a protective circle with Rossie at the center.

The atmosphere shifted from fear to a steely resolve as the reality of their situation began to sink in.

"Okay, let's think this through," Michael suggested, eyes darting around the room as if expecting something strange to suddenly reappear.

"What does this all have to do with Mr. Harl? He seemed… different lately."

Rossie nodded, recalling the peculiar way Mr. Harl had treated Sophie before her death.

"He was obsessed with the strange spirit and the old legends surrounding Haul Academy.

Old legends...mr haul…..as some whispers and said to themselves.

Maybe he's using it for something….

Angela finally spoke, her voice barely above a whisper.

"What if he's unleashed something he can't control?

The weird spirit clearly has a will of its own."

The door opens ... .Becky running in after she got a call from Rossie before the scenario happened clutching Rossie's arm,

"If we can connect the dots between Harl and the weird stuff controlling him then maybe we can stop this before it escalates further."

"But how?" Rossie asked, feeling the weight of their predicament pressing in around her.

"Well, we need to gather intel," Michael said, determination igniting in his eyes.

But not today , today's trouble is enough for the night ; Angela added

"Myself, Michael, Becky will split up and dig deeper later on.

' I assure you everyone will be safe' 'Rossie said confidently.

If anyone sees or senses anything weird , please let us know.

Becky added

Rossie felt a surge of hope. "Yes! But we must be discreet. If Harl catches wind of what we're doing, who knows what he'll do."

As they formed their plan, a looming silence washed over them, punctuated only by distant echoes of laughter that now seemed haunting
