Chapter 16 - THE CHOICE

Chapter 15: The Choice

The world was still dangerous.

The truth was still half-hidden.

But tonight, Mira and Cyan weren't running.

Not from the lies.

Not from their feelings.

Not from each other.

---

The rain had stopped.

They stood beneath the low golden lights of the rooftop garden above the café—their safe place, the only one that hadn't changed.

Cyan was quiet. His hands were fidgeting. That meant he was nervous.

"I know this isn't the right time," he began, voice low, "and maybe it's not the perfect way, but…"

Mira turned to him, heart already thudding.

"…I've made so many choices for everyone else. For missions, for shadows, for secrets. But tonight—" he took a shaky breath "—I just want to choose for me."

He stepped forward, pulling something from his jacket.

Not a ring.

A folded piece of paper.

She unfolded it. Inside was the first thing she'd ever written about him—her notes from that first meeting. He had kept them.

And at the bottom, he had written:

> "If you're still choosing me, I'm choosing you too."

Mira laughed softly, a tear sliding down her cheek. "You spy-posed to me with a piece of paper?"

He smiled—real, vulnerable, the kind of smile she'd fought so long to see.

"I didn't have a ring," he said. "But I had us."

She reached into her bag and pulled out a tiny velvet pouch.

Inside? A silver chain. His, from weeks ago, the one he thought he lost.

She held it out. "This is my proposal."

Cyan's throat caught. "So that's a yes?"

> Mira stepped closer, looped the chain around his wrist, and whispered:

"Yes. To you. To us. To whatever mess we build together."

---

They kissed. Finally.

Not rushed. Not hidden.

Just two people who'd seen too much and still found something to believe in.

Each other.
