December 25, 2012, Christmas Day.
For the Western world, this was a very comforting day. At least in the Avengers Tower, Christmas had not yet been completely commercialized. The evidence was that for Christmas, Tony Stark ordered a massive amount of Domino's and Burger King. Then, they spent the entire afternoon eating, drinking, and watching boring movies.
The Avengers' first Christmas party ended in this rather uneventful manner. Everyone stayed on the top floor of the Avengers Tower, enjoying a day free of supervillains.
"I don't quite understand, Tony. You are a billionaire. You own Stark Towers in seventeen cities across the country. You put your name on all the surrounding merchandise T-shirts, and yet... why are you eating Burger King on Christmas?"
"Actually, he doesn't just eat Burger King on Christmas."
Pepper Potts, who hadn't visited the Avengers Tower much since the Battle of New York, appeared and clarified the situation for Janet: "He likes to eat Burger King anytime."
"When you have the most convenient great burger in the world to eat, trust me, Burger King is a good choice," Tony said, completely unconcerned, biting into a cheeseburger. He had been eating this stuff since he returned from Afghanistan. "And if you save the world that day and want something to eat, trust me, Janet, Burger King is a good choice. Look how happy Hulk is eating."
The Wasp looked at the Hulk, who was devouring a burger in one bite, and figured he was probably happy eating anything.
"So, Thor, where is your nurse girlfriend?"
Tony, sprawled on the sofa, looked at Thor. Thor leaned one hand on the glass wall, holding a half-eaten double cheeseburger in the other. Chewing his burger, he replied: "She said most people at the hospital are off for Christmas, so she has to cover her shift there."
"She's a truly good person."
Hank sighed, then suddenly realized: "I know T'Challa will be a while, but where are the Captain and Parker?"
Tony crumpled the Burger King wrapper into a ball and tossed it into the trash can.
"They... are outside."
In New York at this moment, Spider-Man was swinging through the air as usual. Christmas had arrived. Gwen and Captain George Stacy would, as always, spend Christmas at the Parker house, with gifts prepared by both families sitting under the Christmas tree.
[So, what gift did you prepare for her?]
"It's hard to say. Preparing any gift feels like a troublesome thing."
[The real problem is you've gotten involved with too many girls. If only you liked just one or were a bit colder, it would be fine. But unfortunately, you can't be.]
Venom was, as always, watching the drama unfold. Of course, he was easy to satisfy; all it took was enough Christmas chocolate for Venom to shut up. However, since Peter Parker hadn't maxed out one of Iron Man's credit cards yet, Venom would not shut up.
Peter chose to ignore him.
The Captain had gone to several orphanages to deliver Christmas gifts. His Harley Davidson was loaded with a huge pile of toys and food, which he delivered to the orphanages one by one. It was easy to find out which orphanages were most in need of funding.
Next, the Captain would go to the hospital to visit cancer-stricken children whose families couldn't afford chemotherapy fees. The Captain had already donated his share of the Avengers merchandise income to the children, handling the financial side. Now he was going to visit those children, encouraging them to persevere through the pain of chemotherapy.
[You can go too.]
"Yeah, I will go too. But, for now, I just want to..."
On the rooftop of the Empire State Building, Peter landed in his favorite spot. He took a deep breath, looking down at the city. This had become his new, most frequent sitting spot. He gazed at New York City.
It seemed fate was being cooperative, as a blanket of heavy snow fell on Christmas Day, making the entire city a pristine white.
He just wanted to stay here for a while.
As Peter sat down, he noticed something nearby. Walking over curiously, he found a Christmas gift box placed in this spot where almost no one would come. He was silent for a moment, then smiled.
"It must be Cindy. She can sense that I often sit here to look at the scenery, so she left it here."
[Perhaps you can invite her to sit here with you next time.]
Peter didn't reply, simply opening the Christmas gift from Cindy. There was nothing particularly valuable in the box. In fact, what was inside surprised Peter: a family photo of the Moon family, along with their blessings and thanks, thanking Peter for his help that day.
[That is a really strange gift.]
"Is it? I think it's nice." Peter said, flipping the Moon family photo over, where he found a sentence written by Cindy on the back.
No one will ever forget Spider-Man's help. May you hear all the gratitude.
Peter smiled, put the photo and thank you note away, and sat down to look at the New York scenery. Then he saw something flash below, but his Spider-Sense didn't trigger, so it wasn't an enemy.
A pair of hands covered his eyes.
"You really seem to love this spot. I often see you sitting here."
"If you want to play a guessing game, Felicia, your voice is too recognizable, senpai."
"Then let's switch games. How about, guess what gift I got you?"
Felicia let go of his eyes and presented the Christmas gift to Peter. Peter looked at Felicia with slight surprise, earning a counter-question from her: "What are you staring at me for? Did you realize you didn't get me a Christmas gift and feel embarrassed?"
"No, I just didn't expect you to..."
Felicia left, as if she had just been passing by, or perhaps she didn't want to see Peter unwrap the gift. Peter was momentarily stunned, then opened Felicia's gift box. This, too, was an unexpected present.
He saw a pure black Spider-Man suit, almost identical in style to the Symbiote suit, but Felicia had made him a new one.
"It looks like she really liked that suit."
Venom: ...
Peter simply put both gifts away and then called the Captain.
"Hello, Pete... Spider-Man? I'm at the hospital. Are you coming now?"
"Yeah, I zoned out for a bit, sorry, Captain." Peter adjusted his mood and said: "While there's still some time before evening, I'll head over now."
"The kids will be very happy."
"Me too, Captain."
Because I couldn't write the plot for P.P. and Gwen spending Christmas, I will skip it directly.
These chapters were indeed uneventful. Hopefully, the new storyline starting tomorrow will be better.
Perhaps the Avengers wish every day could be as uneventful as this Christmas.
