Chapter 251 - Chapter 251: Mar-Vell's Perfect World

Captain Marvel Mar-Vell's perfect world was a world unknown to everyone, not even Peter—the reason was simple: the original Captain Marvel died very early in the comics, and Peter knew almost nothing about the character. The most he knew was that in one parallel universe, he had a terrible death and became the source of the infamous Cancerverse contagion.

Judging by the current scene, however, it seemed to be nothing more than a large expanse of laboratories and various experimental facilities.

"This place is giving me the creeps. God knows where that damned Kang is hiding." Rocket complained as he carried a large gun that matched his size. This environment reminded him of the cursed laboratory of the High Evolutionary , making him want to blow the whole place up.

Meanwhile, Gwen seemed quite excited, immediately scrambling onto the ceiling and scuttling along in the shadows. Peter sighed helplessly, preparing to follow her. Cindy shot out her webs in sync with him and said with slight confusion:

"She seems unusually excited."

"It must be the symbiote . Gwen was already very keen on getting superpowers; the symbiote is just intensifying that feeling."

Peter sighed with resignation. The problem wasn't with Venom, but with the entire symbiote race. Symbiotes amplify their host's inherent emotions, which is why Gwen was so euphoric now and didn't want to give up the symbiote suit. Of course, the main reason was that Peter wasn't dead set on taking the suit back inside the Soul Stone's Pocket Universe , otherwise he could just call out to Venom and the suit would return on its own.

Only Reed looked around the laboratories thoughtfully. A scientist's true character could often be seen in the research projects and methods they most desired. If he could ascertain Mar-Vell's research direction and goals here, he would be able to judge whether Mar-Vell was a friend or foe.

"These things look like biological culture dishes. No, more accurately, plant culture dishes." Reed's head darted back and forth between the various dishes before snapping back. "So far, I can't see anything that violates ethical or moral principles."

"You shouldn't use Earth's morals and ethics to judge other civilizations. Different civilizations have different styles and customs. Some civilizations might appear evil to others," Gamora said, walking past Reed. "I've seen some species whose funeral rite is to consume the bodies of the dead. Some self-righteous folks tried to 'civilize' this species, only to find out they were a highly advanced civilization whose technology was centuries ahead of their own."

"Perhaps, but if Dr. Mar-Vell is going to live on Earth now, he probably needs to adapt to Earth's values," Sue countered. Gamora didn't press the point. They were simply looking for the trail of Kang the Conqueror. Adam was now acting as a human radar, sensing Kang's presence. The group continued forward until they reached a more spacious area where a news broadcast was playing. The strange, unintelligible language quickly switched to one they could all understand.

"The Kree Empire and the Skrull Empire have reached a permanent peace treaty. Both sides have promised to no longer initiate wars for any purpose..."

Mar-Vell, now in his blue-skinned alien form, was humming an unknown tune as he adjusted the environmental controls for the various plants in the lab. Hearing footsteps, he turned around, showing no surprise at seeing the group. He just smiled and said: "Hello, my friends. I'm simulating the native environments for the different flora and fauna in the lab. It's beautiful here, isn't it?"

Following Mar-Vell's gaze, they realized the lab was part of a giant space station. Mar-Vell was enjoying the cosmic scenery, tending to plants from different worlds, and living a leisurely life.

Gwen jumped down from the ceiling, scratching the back of her head, utterly confused.

"May I ask how old you are?"

"Forty-four years old. Converted to Earth years, maybe early 30s."

Mar-Vell's smile was gentle and happy. The others exchanged glances. Rocket had initially assumed this man was another mad scientist, but now concluded that he was a slacker in his early thirties who was already planning for retirement. It seemed logical. How else could an investigation into the whereabouts of the Inhumans stretch out for several years? He was clearly a slacker looking to retire on Earth.

"We are tracking Kang the Conqueror, Mar-Vell. He came here."

Even Reed was reluctant to disturb Mar-Vell's retirement. He chose to hide the reality that this was a pocket universe and simply asked about the situation. For reasons unknown, the Soul Stone had arranged for Mar-Vell to recognize Kang and find the entire situation completely normal. He readily opened a camera feed and began tracking Kang's location.

"Alright, he's on the third level, section seven of the space station. Go and catch him."

Seeing that Mar-Vell had no intention of moving, the group felt awkward about pressing the issue. They nodded and left together. Not long after they departed, stray energy solidified into a gust of wind and began to condense. The slacking Mar-Vell stood up, looking at the energy in confusion. He reached out his hand with slight curiosity.

Very quickly, the energy gathered into a human form, taking on the appearance of Korvac.

Korvac's appearance gave Mar-Vell a massive shock. His eyes widened as he realized something, and his wristband instantly shifted shape. High-tech Kree battle armor covered his body.

"Korvac? I... I remember now."

Understanding everything, Mar-Vell was about to rush to help the Kang pursuit team, but Korvac, looking anxious, grabbed Mar-Vell: "Kang the Conqueror is fake!"

"...You mean the Kang they went after is fake?"

Mar-Vell finally understood Korvac's logic. Seeing Korvac nod, he quickly asked: "Alright, then, where is the real Kang the Conqueror?"

"I've been here the whole time."

Kang the Conqueror smiled as he walked out, holding the gun capable of closing spatial rifts. He once again aimed it at Korvac: "And this time, there is no one left to—"

Biu!

Mar-Vell's wristband had transformed into a small handgun. He shot Kang the Conqueror through the heart, then remarked with annoyance: "Why does this person talk so much? Has he never been on a battlefield?"

"That wasn't the real Kang either," Korvac said, his eyes glowing. "He tore himself apart into countless pieces."
