I couldn't believe how much fun I was having.
Ethan guided us to a plush sectional sofa in a corner of the massive living room, far enough from the speakers that we could actually hear each other talk. He gestured for us to sit, his expression unusually kind as he looked at me.
"You'll be safe here," he said, addressing all of us but looking directly at me. "If anyone bothers you, just signal me or one of the guys."
I blinked in surprise. "Thanks, Ethan."
After he walked away to rejoin his friends, Seraphina nudged me hard enough to make me wince.
"What was that about?" she whispered, eyebrows raised. "Since when does Ethan Croft, star basketball player and certified party animal, personally escort you to VIP seating?"
"I told you," I said, smoothing my dress nervously. "His dad is dating my mom."
Debra leaned forward, her eyes wide. "Wait, so like, he's going to be your step-brother? That's why he's being nice to you?"
