Kimi kept her eyes fixed on the road stretching before them. The car hummed quietly as Alvin drove toward the restaurant they had chosen for their private conversation. Her mind churned with questions that demanded answers.

Kimi and Alvin had moved away from where Kolton sat, seeking privacy in a secluded corner.
Alvin studied her worried expression. "What's troubling you so much?"
Kimi met his gaze directly. "You called my mom today, didn't you?"
Alvin's eyebrows lifted in surprise before he quickly composed himself, shaking his head with feigned confusion.
"I didn't call her. What made you think I did?"
"Alvin, stop lying to me," Kimi pleaded, her voice strained. "I'm already overwhelmed with confusion. Don't add to my stress. Something's wrong with my mother. I can see it in her behavior. She's keeping secrets from me. When I overheard your conversation with her today, you mentioned something about reconsidering a decision."
