Chapter 16 - Chapter 16— Let's go

Kura and Arold were in the backyard of Held's house, along with the man himself. The two brothers were in the middle of an intense training session, focused on improving their physical abilities. Everything seemed calm and peaceful that day—birds were singing, a nice coastal breeze was blowing—until the explosive young man decided to ask Held a question:

— Hey, Mr. Held, are there "classifications" for powers?

That question made Held pause the training for a moment. The muscular man quickly grabbed three stones nearby and told each of the boys to sit on one of them, as he also sat down on the third.

— Well, there really are classifications for powers—four in total. The first type is the most common and it's called DNA transformation. This type allows users to alter their genetic material, like creating extra limbs or transforming into animals. The second most common type is terrain alteration—it affects the surrounding area or nearby people.

That immediately clicked in Kura and Arold's minds. They quickly remembered the bishop they had faced a few months ago, especially how his power worked.

— So that damned bishop had that type of power! What was his name again?… Uzaki… Usami… Salami?…

Kura's interruption didn't annoy the soldier—on the contrary, it made him even more excited about his "students'" past experiences. He continued with his explanation:

— Well, the third type is a bit rarer. It's called creation. This type allows the user to create things—like in your case, electricity or explosive materials—and in some cases, to control them as well. The fourth and rarest type is elemental transmutation. It lets the user transform into a natural element. But rarely can they actually control the element they become.

Held finished his explanation about the powers of their world. At the same time, the younger brother was writing everything down, determined to memorize it all—after all, he didn't know when that knowledge might come in handy. That's when he decided to ask another question:

— Is there any power that's stronger than the others?

Held snapped his fingers and pointed at Arold, like saying, "Great question, my boy."

— Well, each power has a weakness, but it's very rare for one type of power to be stronger than the others. Your creativity plays a big role in deciding who's stronger in a fight.

That conversation could have gone on much longer, but a sudden emergency call came in. The one who answered it was Held's brother-in-law, who immediately shouted:

— Held, Kraftig just called! It looks like the Misó terrorists have taken over the city of Kaisīó—we need to move out now!

That made the three of them rush into the house and change clothes as fast as possible. It was 2 p.m., so Held didn't call Shams for the mission, since his powers are useless during the day. He only called Shams' sister instead. The trip would take four hours with no stops.

— Guys, are you ready? It's going to be a four-hour trip!

Everyone agreed and got ready for the journey. They would travel by car at first and then continue on foot. The Moon Woman was already with them, of course. Everyone hoped to return home safe and in one piece. Held even promised to buy everyone a snack if they made it back unharmed.
