Upon arriving at the rendezvous point, Aoki's squad found themselves the only ones present. This wasn't surprising; they'd completed their mission incredibly quickly. Aoki had practically one-shot the vampire noble; if he weren't bound by orders, he would have hunted down another.
Still, they remained vigilant against possible vampire attacks for about twenty minutes.
"How long do we have to wait here?" Yūichirō Hyakuya finally asked Aoki.
"Until the other units arrive," Aoki replied.
"When's the rendezvous time?"
"2:20 PM."
"What time is it now?"
"2:13 PM."
Suddenly, they noticed several figures emerging from the fog. They were severely injured members of the Vampire Extermination Unit, fewer than ten. The others were likely dead, but they had still completed their mission.
"Where's Lieutenant Colonel Guren Ichinose?" The woman leading the group asked, showing no surprise at Aoki's squad's earlier arrival.
"He's not here yet. Wait with us until 2:20 PM. If Guren-san's still alive, he should arrive then," Aoki, the squad leader, replied.
A few minutes later, another squad arrived, led by Shinya Hīragi, Guren Ichinose's friend. Their eleven-member squad (two squads plus Shinya Hīragi) had completed their mission without losses, which was surprising.
They might be shocked to learn that Aoki's squad consisted of only six members and had completed their mission with incredible speed.
A few more minutes passed, and Guren Ichinose's squad finally arrived. "What are you guys doing, lounging around in the sun? You should have completed your missions. If not, I'll court-martial you."
"Of course, we did. How about you?" Yūichirō Hyakuya immediately replied, chest puffed out, despite having done little himself.
Guren Ichinose said, "Easy peasy."
"Liar! You look battered. You must have had a tough fight. We finished in under three minutes," Yūichirō Hyakuya retorted.
"Hey, brat, you finished so quickly because of Aoki," Guren Ichinose countered.
Yūichirō Hyakuya: "So what? At least we didn't look like that."
Guren Ichinose: "Shut up, brat."
Guren Ichinose then saw the leader of the squad that had arrived after Aoki's, noticing her dejected expression and her squad's condition. He understood immediately.
"Aihara Aiko, eight casualties?" Guren Ichinose asked, noting that only seven remained. He remembered that fifteen members had been deployed, meaning eight had died.
"Don't blame yourself, Aihara Aiko. That's war. If anyone's at fault, it's me, the commander. At least you made it back. I said we weren't aiming to survive, but to win. Without sacrifice, it wouldn't be war," Guren Ichinose consoled her.
He turned to Aoki. "Aoki, the other squads?"
"Haven't seen them. Don't know if they're dead or not," Aoki said indifferently.
"Alright, let's not wait. Next mission: City Hall. Three vampire nobles. The nine squads sent there were completely wiped out; nineteen dead, the rest captured as hostages."
Even Aoki's eyes narrowed.
"We need more people. We'll kill those vampire nobles and rescue our comrades. Aoki's squad, my squad, and Shinya will go to City Hall. The others will wait for the other squads. We can't leave them unattended."
"Let's go now."
Aoki and the others set off; Aihara Aiko offered to join Guren Ichinose, but he refused.
After they left, a vampire force arrived at the rendezvous point—two vampire nobles, including Mikaela, killing all the remaining Vampire Extermination Unit members, leaving no survivors.
Meanwhile, Aoki's squad reached City Hall, preparing to attack the three vampire nobles. Aoki planned to eliminate them all alone if they weren't too strong, aiming to kill at least two to obtain the Rinnegan.
From afar, they observed with binoculars. Over twenty Vampire Extermination Unit members were bound to crosses, their fates uncertain. Numerous second-tier armed vampires guarded them. To rescue the members, they needed to hold off the three vampire nobles.
"It's a trap," Guren Ichinose said, after observing the situation with binoculars. He turned to Aoki. "Aoki, any ideas?"
Aoki, after a moment of silence, said, "Find the three vampire nobles. Let me see who they are. If possible, you rescue the hostages. I'll handle the three nobles alone."
"Just like you. I'm hesitant, but let's do it your way," Guren Ichinose said, turning to Yoichi Saotome and Shinya Hīragi.
"You two find the three vampire nobles. Once you locate them, proceed as Aoki said."
