A faint clicking sound echoed in the silence of the tunnel. The Leonard kid reacted first, seizing his rifle and leaping to his feet within moments of the first tremor. He deftly located the passage’s seismic detector, and his face tightened as he pinpointed the earthquake’s origin. More clumps of earth began to fall from the ceiling, increasing in size and frequency with every passing second. Another boom echoed overhead, causing the remaining soldiers to turn ashen with fear.
“Captain, it appears our position has been compromised. They’re planning to blast through the ceiling to attack from above,” a cadet yelled, his voice shaking in terror.
“Dammit, what’s happening up there?” the captain growled.
The tunnel they were in stretched deep into Laurent’s territory, and a breach from above would be nothing short of catastrophic. Colin continued shouting curses as his mind whirled with strategies—however, it seemed Kyle Leonard was one step ahead of him.
