Chapter 2 - Chapter Two: Adapting to New Surroundings and Curious Eyes

After Rias and Akeno left, Kaito let out a sigh of relief, as if a heavy burden had been lifted from his chest. The beginning had been better than he'd expected—at least, it hadn't been a complete disaster. He settled into a quiet corner before heading to the student council room, reflecting on the new system that now felt like a sword hanging over his head.

He opened the system's interface in his mind, scrolling through its menus and options like someone discovering a secret weapon. "Quests," "Experience," "Knowledge Bank," "Rewards," "Skills"—they all felt like features in a game, but Kaito knew that every choice he made here could shape his future in this very real world.

He paused at the "Side Quests" section—missions he'd need to complete to earn experience and points. A mix of excitement and caution surged through him before he closed the menu with a mental click. He stood up, his body carrying him forward as if every step might open a new chapter in this story.

Every step, every glance, every word… could tip the balance.

He remembered Rias and Akeno's warnings about the student council. He moved through the halls of Kuoh Academy with as much calm confidence as he could muster, though his heart beat in a strange, tense rhythm.

The atmosphere felt oddly familiar—like a scene out of an anime on repeat. Students chatting, some laughing, others rushing to class. But what caught his attention more than anything were the looks he received—curious, surprised, and even a hint of admiration in the eyes of some girls. Heat rose to his cheeks as he remembered the system's new appearance upgrades. He let out a small smile and kept walking.

At the student council office, he opened the door and found himself facing two girls who looked like the guardians of a hidden throne. The first, with short black hair and glasses, embodied seriousness and authority: Sona Shitori, the student council president. The second, with long blue hair and a sharp gaze, looked like a blade wrapped in silk: Tsubaki Shinra, the vice president.

Sona slowly raised her head from her papers, her eyes widening slightly in a hidden spark of surprise. Tsubaki's reaction was no less striking; her brows lifted in silent intrigue, as though she'd just seen a face from a dream. It wasn't just curiosity—there was a subtle admiration she couldn't quite hide.

"Welcome. You're the transfer student, Kaito Yamada-kun?" Sona asked, her voice calm and controlled, yet laced with a curiosity that didn't escape his notice.

"Yes, that's me. Thank you for welcoming me," Kaito replied with a polite smile, masking his deeper knowledge of every detail about them.

"We didn't receive any prior notice of your transfer, but your name is registered here," Sona continued, her eyes fixed on him like she was trying to read an invisible script. "It seems some of the administrative processes are… less than perfect. Regardless, welcome to Kuoh Academy."

"Tsubaki, please bring Yamada-kun's registration papers," Sona instructed in her usual composed tone.

"Yes, President," Tsubaki responded. Her eyes darted back to Kaito, as if memorizing his features before she left the room.

As Sona explained the rules and procedures, Kaito felt her gaze linger on him whenever she had the chance, as if she were sizing him up repeatedly.

After signing the forms and receiving his class schedule, he left the office with a mix of tension and excitement. "Class 2-B"—the same class as Issei Hyoudou.

When Kaito reached the classroom, he opened the door quietly. Conversations ceased instantly, and every eye turned to him as if a legendary hero had just entered. A brief wave of nerves hit him, but he quickly regained his composure.

"Hello, everyone. I'm Kaito Yamada. I transferred here today. I hope we can all be friends," he said with a confident voice, determined to make a strong impression.

A quiet buzz of whispers spread among the girls, while some of the boys shot him suspicious or jealous looks. At the back of the room, he noticed three boys—one with glasses, another with messy brown hair. "Issei Hyoudou…" Kaito muttered, studying the story's protagonist with curious eyes.

Kaito took a seat in the front row and tried to focus on the lesson, but his mind was already planning ahead: how to change the story's course without raising any suspicion. How could he replace Issei without becoming a devil himself? That was the real challenge.

At lunch, he headed to the cafeteria looking for a quiet spot, but a group of girls immediately surrounded him with questions, while the boys glared at him with barely concealed hostility.

That's when he spotted Issei and his two friends, Matsuda and Motohama, sneaking off to a suspicious place. "Here comes the infamous 'Perverted Stare' scene," Kaito whispered. He didn't follow them, but his eyes tracked their every move.

[System Mission: Initial Observation][Observe the behavior of Issei Hyoudou and his friends. Do not interfere yet.][Reward: 50 XP, partial unlock of the Knowledge Bank.]

Kaito smirked. The system was watching. Good.

As he wandered the school grounds, he passed an old, isolated building—the Occult Research Club. He didn't enter, but felt a strange energy emanating from within.

As the sun set, Kaito left Kuoh Academy. The sky burned orange and red, like a warning of the fate awaiting him. He felt tired, but a thrill of excitement coursed through him. The first day in DxD was over, but the real adventure had only just begun.

"What's my next move?" he whispered to himself, staring at the familiar yet mysterious streets. He knew this was only the beginning.
