Chapter 205 - C100.1: Justice and Betrayal

The second week of November brought with it a gray morning that seemed to mirror the state of Sharp Innovations. Victoria sat in her office, staring at yet another report detailing their continued losses. The leaked documents had triggered a cascade of cancelled contracts, withdrawn investments, and public speculation that seemed impossible to stem. Her company's stock had dropped by thirty percent, and several key clients had already jumped ship to competitors who somehow seemed to know exactly what offers to make.

Victoria's phone buzzed and Amara's voice came through the intercom with unusual excitement. "Ms. Sharp, I have Mr. Anderson from Anderson Group on line one. He says it's urgent."

Victoria's hand hesitated over the phone. The Anderson Group was one of the most powerful conglomerates in the country, with influence that reached into every sector of business and government. She had never worked with them before, though they had recently accepted one of her business proposals. This would be her first direct collaboration with the powerful organization.

"Mr. Anderson," she said, accepting the call with cautious professionalism.

"Victoria, I hope you'll forgive the directness, but we've been monitoring the situation with Sharp Innovations. What is happening to your company isn't just corporate competition. It's coordinated sabotage, and we have reason to believe we can help you identify the source."

Within hours, Anderson Group's security experts had descended on Sharp Innovations like a surgical strike team. Their resources dwarfed anything Victoria could have assembled on her own, and their investigation methods were both thorough and ruthlessly efficient. They traced digital footprints, analyzed communication patterns, and followed money trails with the precision of a federal investigation.

The breakthrough came on a Wednesday afternoon. Victoria was in a strategy meeting when Amara burst in with barely contained excitement.

"Ms. Sharp, they found him. The Anderson team has concrete evidence of who's been leaking our information, and you're not going to believe who it is."

The name hit Victoria like a physical blow: Daniel Harris. Her former board member, one of the executives she had let go months back when she dissolved part of her board. She hadn't fired him for incompetence. She simply had no use for his position anymore during her company restructuring. Victoria had compensated all the dissolved board members well, especially Daniel, who had struggled to accept his release despite the generous severance package.

"Daniel Harris," Victoria said, the name tasting bitter on her tongue. "That ungrateful, vindictive bastard."

The evidence was overwhelming. Bank records showed suspicious payments to Daniel from unknown sources. Digital forensics revealed his fingerprints all over the leaked information. Most damning of all, they had recordings of phone conversations where Daniel explicitly discussed selling Sharp Innovations' secrets to their competitors.

The arrest happened swiftly. Victoria insisted on being present when they brought Daniel in for questioning, wanting to look him in the eye when he was confronted with his betrayal. The conference room at Sharp Innovations felt like a courtroom as Daniel was led in wearing handcuffs, his face pale but defiant.

"Daniel Harris," Victoria said, her voice carrying the full weight of her fury and disappointment. "After the generous severance I gave you. After I made sure you were well compensated during the board dissolving. This is how you repay that consideration?"

Daniel's composure cracked instantly under the intensity of her gaze. "You dismissed me!" he shouted, lunging forward against his restraints. "You made my position obsolete! You ended my career!"

"I restructured the company!" Victoria shot back, rising from her chair with volcanic anger. "I gave you a severance package worth more than most people make in five years! I provided excellent references and helped you transition to new opportunities!"

The rage that had been building inside her for weeks finally found its target. "I treated you more than fairly, Daniel. I paid you an exceptional severance, I gave you time to find new opportunities, and I even provided glowing references to potential employers. And this is what you do? You try to destroy everything I've built because you couldn't handle a standard business restructuring?"

Daniel's face contorted with hatred. "You think you're so perfect, so untouchable! You needed to be brought down!"

"Were any former board members involved with you in this?" Victoria demanded, her voice sharp as a blade.

Daniel shook his head vigorously. "No, this was all me. I planned it, I executed it, and I'd do it again!"

Victoria's expression grew cold and calculating. "Then you'll face the full consequences alone. According to the legal clauses in your former employment contract, clauses that remain in effect regarding confidentiality, you have two choices. You can pay a fine of thirteen billion dollars in damages to Sharp Innovations, or you can face criminal charges for corporate espionage, theft of trade secrets, and industrial sabotage. The criminal route carries a sentence of twelve to fifteen years in federal prison."

The blood drained from Daniel's face as the magnitude of his situation hit him. "Thirteen billion? That's impossible! I don't have that kind of money!"

"Then you'll go to prison," Victoria said with finality. "You made this choice when you decided to betray the company that gave you everything."

Daniel exploded with rage, cursing and shouting as he strained against his handcuffs. In his fury, he attempted to lunge at Victoria, but the police officers flanking him immediately restrained him, forcing him back into his chair.

"You destroyed my life!" he screamed as they held him down. "I'll make sure everyone knows what kind of person you really are!"

From his jail cell, Daniel placed desperate calls to Chad Winters and Elena Vasquez, begging them for legal help and financial support. But both of his former conspirators had already distanced themselves from the situation the moment they learned of Anderson Group's involvement.

Chad's response was immediate and decisive: "Daniel, I can't help you. The Anderson Group has too much power, and I'm not going to risk my own company by association with your crimes. You're on your own."

Elena was even more brutal in her rejection: "Did you really think we were partners in this? You were a useful tool, nothing more. Don't contact me again."
