Shadow and ancient power smashed together at the center of the broken chamber, blasting debris outward. Kaelmor's cane became a blade of red-black authority. The demoness met it barehanded, palm catching the edge, bloodless sparks bursting between them. She twisted, grabbed his wrist, nearly tore the weapon away, but his shadow bit into her ankle and dragged her off balance.
He struck her across the ribs.
She laughed.
Actually laughed.
Low, delighted, dangerous.
"Better."
Kaelmor's smile widened. "Finally impressed?"
"No."
She headbutted him.
His nose broke.
The entire chamber seemed to flinch.
Kaelmor staggered back, blood pouring over his smile.
For a second, silence.
Then he laughed again, louder.
"Oh, I have missed this kind of conversation."
The demoness rolled her shoulders, power gathering around her like a storm choosing a coastline.
"I haven't."
She looked toward the broken exit.
Not fleeing.
Thinking.
