POV - Chaos
I couldn't believe what I had heard. It was a lie! They were using a man's dead son to get money from him? I didn't know much about it, but it seemed so...wrong. I wanted to go tell the Fire Moon Alpha, but I couldn't.
My ears heard Grady's whistle, making me realize the sun was setting. He was calling us in for the night. I quietly slipped back out under the garden hedges and made my way home to receive an evening meal of frozen river trout.
Every time I got food as a dog, I felt resentment on Kyas' behalf. They feed pack dogs better than they fed him. To Kyas, that was just life for him, he wasn't angry, but I was.
My favorite place to bed down was under the water cart, so I knew I would be ready for the next day's work. I crawled under to my spot, tucked my nose under my tail, and drifted off to sleep.
---------------------------
'Chaos!'
I woke to Kyas shouting in my mind.
Disoriented, I raised my head. It was still night, and black as pitch.
'Kyas, what is it?' I asked, confused as to why he woke me.
'Chaos, someone is coming, a lot of them. I hear their steps on the forest floor, they aren't even trying to be quiet!' He panicked.
I listened to the night. I heard them too, they were coming, they were many, and they were coming fast.
Not knowing what to do, I set up barking, loudly, trying to alert anyone. Grady was heard, stumbling to the door, but it was too late.
A pack of rogue wolves flooded from the trees, taking down anyone in sight, any living thing. Under the water cart, I watched it all. I saw a large wolf attack Grady in his doorway, ripping out his throat. A second later, Darlene's high pitched scream, then a gurgle and then silence, the wolf exiting, with blood all over it.
The pack wolves were awake and running to meet the rogues now, and pitched battles erupted everywhere. Suddenly, a pair of fighters slammed into the cart, flipping it over.
I ran, heading toward the dog pen, and Sam and Lou. Dodging combatants everywhere, I made it to the pen, but there was no safety here. The still forms of all the dogs, Todd, Romeo, Fred, and the others - some had been ripped apart. Among them were Sam and Lou, Lou in wolf form, laying over Sam. Both of them dead.
On my right, a death howl was heard, a rogue emerging from underneath the body of a pack guard stood, shook out its fur, and looked right at me. It lunged at me, but mid-leap, another pack wolf knocked him down, and I ran again.
I ran to the garden, hoping the maze would deter the rogues but also heard fighting there. It was Alpha Silas, Alma the Witch, and the Fire Moon Alpha, all still in human form. A huge black wolf leaped up, impossibly high and came down on Alpha Silas, his back paws ripping red streaks down his chest and stomach, it's front paws landing on his shoulders.
Alpha Silas screamed in pain, seconds before the black rogue grabbed his head in it's mouth and ripped it off. The other Alpha had a club, and been attacking the black wolf while it had attacked Alpha Silas. Alma lay across a stone bench, lifeless eyes staring up at the stars, her neck clearly broken, a silver wolf dead nearby with a fading green glow.
The Fire Moon Alpha shifted to wolf form, and took on the huge black rogue beast, managing to get under him and rip the rogue wolf's belly open with his back claws. It's head though, was driving for the Alpha's throat.
I panicked. Not him! He had been nice to me! I darted forward and came up under the rogue's head, latched my teeth onto the soft underneath of it's throat and pulled with all my might. Blood went everywhere, the rogue choked and coughed, staggering away from the Alpha and collapsing a few feet away.
The Alpha's wolf stood, shook the blood out of his fur, and ran for the garden exit. I followed, not knowing what else to do. The Alpha's black car slid into view, knocking down wolves as it came. It pulled up and the door swung open, and just as the Alpha reached it, he was hit from the side by another rogue, this one smaller, a female.
I caught up with them, and latched onto the she-wolf's tail, yanking viciously, surprising her. As she turned to get to me, the Alpha shifted to human form and locked his hands around her neck, choking the life from her.
A severed human head came out of the darkness to hit my hind legs, and I let go of the tail, leaping into the car and diving as far under a seat as I could get, followed seconds later by the Alpha, who pulled the door shut and the locks clicked into place, the driver speeding off. Five loud thuds were heard in various directions around the car, until we were clear of Cedar River packlands.
Then, everything was quiet except for the hum of the engine. In the back, the only sounds were my quick panting breaths and the Alpha's heavy breathing, as we both began to calm down. The car silently drove into the night.
Daybreak arrived, and weak light began to brighten up the back seat. Soon I could see him, naked and covered in blood. Soon after, he lifted his head, and seemed to notice me, also covered in blood.
He patted the seat next to him and told me to come over. I obeyed, half afraid he was going to tell the driver to stop, and kick my filthy self out of his car. He reached down and touched my collar, finding my tag.
He gave a quiet chuckle. "Blaze, huh? Of course it is." He settled me next to him on the seat, and sat back, his hand petting my bloody fur. "I guess you're coming home with me, Blaze." He said.
We both fell into an exhausted sleep, as the car drove on.
