Chapter 8 - 7

Evans' house

Arthur sat in his room at a table with three things on it: a pencil, a handkerchief, and a pen. The brown-haired man examined them, then took hold of the shard around his neck and closed his eyes. His free hand was covered in white energy. He touched the handkerchief and there was no change. Everything remained as it was. Then the pencil: No effect. And finally the pen: where he touched the metal began to grow. Suddenly the glow stopped and the changes stopped. Chestnut's head veins were bleeding.

«How the hell does that work...? - Evans made a fist and his hand was covered in black energy.

He touched the grown metal with his fist. It began to disintegrate without leaving a trace.

«Eh... - The brown-haired man took the pencil by the graphite, his hand covered with black energy.

Suddenly the pencil fell, and the graphite was gone. Evans looked at his hand. Not even a trace of the pencil was left on his hand. Arthur exhaled and the glow disappeared.

«The wood. Handkerchief... Iron... Graphite... What does this have to do with anything! - he asked. - So... White light creates or even clones.... And black light destroys. Why selectively?!

The brown-haired man ruffled his hair, then sat cross-legged on a chair and crossed his arms over his chest, closing his eyes. Suddenly, he began to float in the air and hit his head on the ceiling.

«Ouch! - he looked up. - Mum!" Arthur fell to the floor.

Chestnut grabbed his tailbone.

«'Thank goodness mum's at work...' - he looked at the altered handle. - Otherwise there'd be no way I'd have explained it....

Evans stood up, holding his back. It clicked sharply in his head.

«So... - he headed for the ground floor.

Arthur went down to the basement where there were exercise machines, weights, barbells, dumbbells and pancakes. He lifted a five-pound pancake for the dumbbells.

«Okay, five kilos is okay for now... - the brown-haired man picked up a three kilo pancake and placed it on top of the previous one.

Evans picked that up as well. The paratrooper lifted a twenty kilo barbell pancake.

«Tolerable so far... - He set the pancake down and placed a fifteen-kilogram pancake on top.

The chestnut then struggled but lifted the two pancakes. Arthur let go of him and collapsed to the floor.

«So... Thirty-five kilos is the maximum - the trapped man took out a notebook and wrote down. - My weight is twenty-five... - Evans did some calculations. - So I can lift forty per cent more than my own weight.

Next, he put the pancakes on the dumbbells and started swinging. Both 12 kilos. Then he started to pump his legs on a special machine. Then he started lifting weights by pulling on ropes. When Arthur finished every possible workout, he collapsed on the floor.

«That's it... - The fallen man struggled to get up and started putting everything back together.

The brown-haired man walked out of the basement and headed for the bathtub. Evans took off his turtleneck and t-shirt, then wrung out all the sweat. Half a basin of sweat had collected. The paraplegic poured the sweat into the toilet and flushed. Then he hung the black turtleneck and white t-shirt to dry. Arthur went to change his clothes.

Arthur came out of his room. He was wearing a black turtleneck (he has loads of them, don't mind him! 😂 -Pokus), over a white t-shirt, white trousers with a belt and shoes. Around his neck was a black and white striped scarf.

«So... I'd forgotten all about the plan for today.... - Chestnut came back into the room and rolled the board from the corner, flipping it over.

Evans sat down in a chair and began to think, looking at the board. He picked up a sketchbook and a pencil, after which he began to make some sketches. He stuck a drawing next to each of the races he had written. The Kree had a supreme mind, the Skrulls had their queen, the Shi'ar had their queen, and so on. Then Arthur sat back down and stared at the board. Then he took a marker and began to draw on the board. Arthur drew a sword. It looked like a knight's sword with a ring in the centre of the guard, with halves of the guard sticking out of the sides, the hilt at the bottom and the blade at the top. In the centre of this large ring or hoop was written "Sword of Eternity".

«I've seen something like that somewhere... - said Evans, and then signed the photo of the shard. - I'm going to call these shards Fractals....

He started making more notes.

«Abracadabra... - Arthur said, looking at what came out.

The brown-haired man flipped the board over and rolled it into a corner, covering it. Then he looked at the table and the nearest things made of different materials.

«Let's continue the experiments... - Evans picked up a rubber ball.

The paraplegic put different things on the table. Arthur picked up the rubber ball and covered the hand on which he held the ball with white energy. Only the paint on it disappeared. Then he threw it down and picked up a piece of paper. Some kind of salts and oils were wafting out of it, in a word, one chemistry. Evans immediately tried to emit a black light and destroy this chemistry. Chestnut then took a plastic ring of white energy and began to grow. He went through almost every thing in the room like that. The adventurer sat down, propping his head up with his hand.

«Wood... Rubber... Leather... They're not affected... - Arthur looked at one pile. - Glass... Plastic... It works fine on them. - then paper. - Partly on paper and similar materials...

The brown-haired man collapsed on his back, looking up at the ceiling.

«That's like one day's thinking... More questions than answers," Arthur said, tucking his hands under his head.

Evans closed his eyes, sighing.

«What the hell are answers?! I haven't even figured out how it works!?! - He jumped up and hit his head on the ceiling again.

The paratrooper looked around and saw that he was floating in the air again.

«Well, you bastard... - The brown-haired man pushed himself off the ceiling with his hands.

Arthur landed on his feet, patting himself on the cheeks.

«Well, I'll be damned if I can control this power.... - he scratched his bump, then looked up at the ceiling.

Evans clapped his hands together. At the last second, black energy covered his left hand and white energy covered his right hand. A small explosion was created, causing the chestnut to fly off into the door. A trace of soot was left on his face, and his hair stood up. The tip of one of their hairs began to smoke. He licked his index finger and thumb, then squeezed the smoking tip.

«Now I don't get it... - Arthur looked at his hands.

He coated his palm with white energy and swiped at the soot on his face. It was gone. Then the chestnut man fixed his hair, returning it to its former appearance.

«That's better... - said Arthur.

Then Evans took out a notebook and started writing.

«So... Black energy destroys... White energy recreates or even clones... So two opposites. Levitation or flight. I can lift forty per cent more than my own weight... - he thought about it. - We'll have to test for certain factors....

Arthur began to think.

Aria walked into the house, slamming the door shut. She was wearing a black leather jacket over a t-shirt, blue jeans with a belt and shoes. Her hair was shorter. On her shoulder was a laptop bag.

«Ugh. I'm tired. - The brown-haired girl walked past the hall and saw Arthur sleeping soundly.

Miss Evans smiled and then crouched down next to him, quietly placing her hand on his head. She closed her eyes, dozing off.
