Chapter 22 - Chapter 22: Indecisive & Permanent Status!

> Current Status: Indecisive

> Note: From this moment on, you possess three hearts and dual soul-consciousness.

> Refresh Countdown: 167:59:58

Staring at the current status, Hajime looked utterly dumbfounded.

He thought to himself—sure, he barely passed the language portion of the college entrance exams back then, but there's no way he remembered the meaning of this idiom wrong, right?

"Indecisive"? That's what this means?

Or… maybe it got distorted in translation from Japanese?

That must be it.

But still…

Hajime instinctively lowered his gaze to his chest. "Three hearts? Am I a nerfed version of Kakuzu?"

He patted his chest but didn't feel any extra heartbeats.

However, at that moment, his vision subtly shifted—he could see his own heart.

It was beating steadily, and surrounding it were two translucent, phantom-like hearts, overlapping and encasing the real, flesh-and-blood one.

Three hearts, indeed.

"So if someone targets my heart, I've got two layers of immunity?"

Hajime speculated internally, and then his thoughts turned elsewhere:

"Does the dual soul-consciousness work the same way?"

"If that's the case… could I multitask like never before?"

"With two soul-consciousnesses, techniques like Mind Body Switch Jutsu might be rendered useless."

"In training or combat… multitasking to the extreme?"

He decided to test it out—and the moment he tried, he slipped into a strange state.

It was like he had two minds operating at once, both capable of thinking separately.

"Brilliant!"

His eyes lit up, and he tried the classic test: drawing a circle with one hand and a square with the other.

No problem at all. Smooth and flawless.

In other words, his body could now be controlled independently by each consciousness.

"What about chakra control…"

He jumped to his feet, extended both palms, and attempted to form Rasengan in both hands.

In the next second, the air stirred—and twin Rasengans spun to life in each hand, perfectly stable.

Sure, with enough training, one could do this even without dual minds…

But not this easily, not this smoothly.

Thinking further, Hajime dispelled one Rasengan and focused on the one in his right hand. He began infusing it with Wind Release chakra.

Instantly, the pale blue Rasengan brightened. Its center turned white-hot, and the surrounding airflow became sharper, more violent.

Wind Release: Rasengan.

A technique Hajime hadn't fully completed before—but now, he'd done it with ease.

"Two soul-consciousnesses… the synergy is even tighter than Shadow Clones."

"Which means…"

His mind leapt to a more advanced version—Wind Release: Rasenshuriken.

With two minds working in tandem, the difficulty of mastering it would drastically decrease.

In fact, in this state, was it possible to develop a full-powered Rasenshuriken that could be thrown—without needing Sage Mode?

If the Rasengan was something he could take or leave…

Then a thrown Rasenshuriken was an entirely different story.

"Let's give it a try!"

Hajime was fired up.

He'd already conquered the nature transformation. Now, he needed to maintain the Wind Release Rasengan's integrity while pushing its form transformation to the limit.

In other words, one mind would focus on maintaining the base Rasengan, and the other would handle the extreme form manipulation.

With that plan in mind, he began.

More Wind chakra surged in, and he meticulously guided its flow.

The Rasengan began to expand—its chakra density so immense that his hand sagged slightly under the weight.

Boom!

It collapsed.

Again.

Undeterred, Hajime grabbed his right wrist with his left hand and continued the experiment.

And so, it collapsed again and again.

But progress was still being made.

After a long while, with his chakra heavily depleted, Hajime sat down, drenched in sweat, to catch his breath.

"S-rank jutsu really isn't something you can just whip up casually..."

He sighed inwardly, but a smile remained on his face.

In this Indecisive state, he was confident he could succeed.

However, Hajime soon pulled his attention back to his status bar.

He glanced up at the status bar above his head.

Only then did he notice — besides the current status, a new entry had appeared.

> [Swordsmanship Expert] — Permanent <

Hajime's heart gave a jolt.

A permanent status?

Wasn't it supposed to reset?!

"Could it be..."

He pondered deeply: "Because I've been training in swordsmanship during this time, reaching the standard set by the status, it solidified into a permanent status?"

"If that's the case, then why didn't [Heart and mouth in unison] become permanent too?"

Hajime's thoughts paused for a second.

"[Heart and mouth in unison] was different. Even though I was acting in line with it, it was more like being forcibly driven by the status effect. I never truly accepted it — I never tried to make it my own."

That must be it!

In that case...

Hajime stared at his status bar.

If he could, like with swordsmanship, achieve the Indecisive state on his own without relying on the buff, could he also solidify it into a permanent ability?

"Wait."

Another question popped into his mind.

If I can already do it, would I even still need the status?

This cheat system was seriously inhumane — not only was it not intelligent, but it didn't even come with a user manual!

Grumbling to himself, Hajime continued analyzing.

The permanent [Swordsmanship Expert] wasn't useless.

He was very clear that his current swordsmanship mastery had been obtained because of the [Swordsmanship Expert] status.

And this status didn't just grant expert-level swordsmanship — it also granted talent.

If the status hadn't been solidified, he would only have the skill, not the innate talent at that level.

Hajime didn't know if the expert-level talent could allow him to push his swordsmanship even further past the expert tier...

But who would ever complain about having more talent?

Which brought him to the next question—

How exactly was he supposed to achieve Indecisive on his own?

He mulled it over.

"Multitasking can definitely be trained. Even if it's not as smooth as it is with the status, as long as I manage it, it should meet the requirements for solidification."

"But what about the three hearts…"

Kakuzu!

Only that guy came to mind.

Earth Grudge Fear — the forbidden jutsu!

But—

Never mind whether he could even beat Kakuzu.

The real issue was — within seven days, he had to master multitasking and obtain Earth Grudge Fear — an insanely difficult task.

Just thinking about it, Hajime's previously good mood completely evaporated.

Pants already off, and you're telling me it won't get up?

He was seriously frustrated.

Even with Konoha's intel network, tracking down Kakuzu wouldn't happen overnight.

Not to mention, he couldn't mobilize Konoha's full intelligence resources either — he had no real way to leverage Konoha's strength to hunt Kakuzu down.

Maybe he could get it from Takigakure instead?

But would Takigakure even still have Earth Grudge Fear?

And even if they did, would they just hand it over obediently?

Hajime knew the answer very clearly—no way.

Letting out a long sigh, Hajime forced himself to put aside his greedy thoughts for now.

He thought to himself, "Better to focus on using the current status for training."

Shadow Clones and Wood Style Clones can also inherit this status.

With that thought, Hajime completely lost any desire to sleep.

Seven days.

Way too short!
