Chapter 1 - Chapter 1 - Queen

Great Forest of Jura — ???

The vast expanse of the Cardinal World was both dangerous and beautiful—a realm teeming with countless species, each calling a different corner of it home. Among them was a race born not of nature, but by accident—an ill-fated experiment by the Eastern Empire to push the boundaries of evolution. What they created, however, was not a miracle. It was a monster.

The Chimera Ant.

Touted by some as the pinnacle of evolution, the project quickly unraveled. The ants, once mere test subjects, rapidly evolved into bipedal beings with intelligence—and a hatred for humanity. Horrified by their creation, the scientists attempted to exterminate them all before the nightmare could spread.

But one escaped.

She made her way across the continent, finally disappearing into the dense, mysterious expanse of the Great Forest of Jura. Nestled in this wild and unclaimed land, the creature began to thrive. She had no name. She needed none. Her purpose was etched into the very fabric of her being, reflected in the terrifying skill that had evolved within her.

Phagogenesis.

A singular power that allowed her to consume monsters and birth new soldiers, fusing the abilities and characteristics of those devoured into her offspring. It was a skill that defied the laws of natural evolution—horrifying and magnificent all at once.

Now, deep within the forest, the Chimera Ant queen crouched over the remains of a large reptilian beast, its body gator-like and massive. Her sharp mandibles tore into it methodically. Overhead, hundreds of eggs clung to the ceiling of her steadily expanding hive. Each one pulsed with life. Her thoughts were consumed by a singular instinct, raw and overwhelming.

'I must give birth to the King.'

That thought echoed louder than any other. It was her purpose, her mission—her very reason for continuing to exist. She needed more nourishment, more life force, more raw material to bring forth the one who would lead their kind into the future. Nothing else mattered. Not pain, not death. Only the King.

Her conviction was terrifying… yet admirable.

The last of her meal finished, the queen shifted slightly as one of her chosen soldiers approached the entrance to her chamber. A tall figure stepped into the dim glow of the nest, bowing low before her. She tilted her head, recognizing the magicules instantly.

"What is it, Colt?" she asked, her voice echoing with ancient weight.

Colt straightened, his large wings twitching slightly behind his back. He was humanoid in shape, though unmistakably insect-like in build, with a sharp jaw, black spiky hair, and eyes full of loyalty.

"My queen," he said, voice firm but edged with worry, "we have doubled the quota you requested… However, keeping up with your demands is growing difficult. The stronger monsters require more resources, and we lack the soldiers to take them down efficiently."

He hated bringing her ill news, but she needed to know. The queen was the foundation of their species, and as long as she lived, so too would their future. Even bad news could help shape that future, if addressed with wisdom.

The queen paused, her long antennae twitching as she considered his words. Then she nodded, having already devised a solution.

"Avoid any species that are too powerful for now," she instructed. "Focus on the weak links. I need more food if I'm to create the royal guard and, more importantly, the King. Once the weak have been consumed, then and only then should you turn your efforts toward the strong."

She narrowed her eyes slightly.

"If that is all, you are dismissed."

Colt bowed once more, then turned and exited without another word. Orders were orders. Now it was his job to pass them down to the rest of the squadron leaders. No matter the danger, food for the queen was the highest priority. They all understood this.

Alone once more, the queen raised her gaze to the ceiling. Her thoughts drifted again—this time to another unique skill she alone possessed as a true queen. The skill in question allowed her to name her offspring without burden or consequence, a rare trait that strengthened each ant she blessed with a name.

No other Chimera Ant possessed this.

It made her even more determined to see her plan through. But this forest was not without threats—deadly ones. Chief among them was him.

The queen's compound eyes narrowed.

'I can only hope the Storm Dragon Veldora does not reappear,' she thought. 'If he does, it will be nearly impossible to birth the King in peace.'

She had chosen this location carefully, precisely because even the most powerful humans and demon lords dared not tread upon land claimed by the Storm Dragon. It offered rare sanctuary—at least for now. But Veldora's presence was a double-edged sword. If he were to return…

She didn't bear thinking about it.

Still, she had hope. The King—her son—would not just be powerful. He would surpass all expectations. The pinnacle of evolution and brilliance, he would rise above even dragons and demon lords alike. He had to.

Reaching down with one clawed hand, she gently rubbed her slightly swollen abdomen. Her multifaceted eyes gleamed with a rare softness.

'Don't worry, my son,' she promised silently. 'I'll make sure you have the strength to conquer this world.'

Even if she didn't realize it then, the birth of the King would mark the beginning of a new age. One that would shake the very foundation of the Cardinal World.
