Chapter 67 - Hidden Loyalties

I'd become accustomed to creeping through Fangreach's halls by moonlight, but tonight the shadows loomed a bit closer than normal. Torchlight barely reached the corners. Every whisper sounded like a warning. There was a tautness in the air — something brittle just below the surface, as if the city were holding its collective breath.

I had kept going in reverses since before the dawn, investigating that none of the last of our supply had been adulterated. The destruction of the Black Gate had broken the Wolf King's tide, but we all knew it was just a reprieve. The next wave would be stronger, be smarter, be darker. We had to have every ally and every secret uncovered before it did.
