Chapter 7 - The Man Of High Society

I had just been dropped off on the island by Adams. Everything looked intact from the outside. I didn't think they fully realized the plan—it was possible they didn't know who was behind the operation. I headed toward the mansion.

Inside, my father sat at the dining table with an empty glass.

—You finished quickly. Y.K. hasn't arrived yet.

—How can you be so calm? You know I was discovered!?

—I know, but what else can I do but wait? Anyway, the High Society Man had doubts about me for a long time.

—Can you tell me why you chose to do this in the first place? I don't think it's justified.

—I told you, I'm not happy with how the world is developing.

—And that, why Hamura?" said a woman's voice from the shadows.

—The Man Of High Society...

Two figures emerged from the shadows: a tall man, dressed elegantly in gray, with unkempt longer hair than Y.K.'s, and a beautiful woman with thick, long red hair tied in a ponytail. Both looked alike—red eyes and hair. Probably siblings, even twins. The man seemed stoic, the woman manipulative and seductive by her tone. Both were armed with katanas.

—So tell us, Hamura, what made you betray us after centuries of working together?

—Emma, your motives changed long ago and no longer align with your father's. I promised him I'd take care of you, but I won't let you destroy what he worked so hard to build.

—A pity. But our father has been gone for a long time. Thank you, Hamura, for always being there for us...

Then multiple bombs exploded in the mansion. The blast threw me from my father. I saw... him stabbed in the heart by the High Society Man. My armor enveloped me, but Emma's brother slashed my wings and legs from behind. Another explosion. The impact threw me through the window. Then I saw Y.K. running toward the mansion.

I had déjà vu of the dream I had that night, before meeting Y.K.

-Andreas Shinja

I had just landed on the island where Andreas had brought me earlier. I headed toward the large house nearby. Then it exploded... fire everywhere... And again... I saw a legless body on the ground. It was Andreas. I ran to him. As I reached him, a red-haired man appeared and slashed with his sword. I raised my cane and blocked.

—So, you're Hamura's toy. said a woman's voice from behind.

—You're the one who killed Aston... said the man. Let's see what you're made of.

He struck harder—very fast. I struggled to block his attacks. He jabbed at my sternum, but by sheer luck, I blocked with the blunt side of my blade. The blow pushed me slightly back. He followed with two slashes—I blocked perfectly. He leapt into the air and began striking chaotically. I held my cane above my head to guard, then launched him into the air. He was very strong—above my level. Then a bullet pierced one of my hearts, just as it was regenerating. I fell to my knees, staring ahead. The man's free hand had transformed into a sniper rifle. What kind of power was that?

—Davis, enough!

Someone was behind me. They grabbed my head and inserted a finger into my neck. I collapsed, still conscious. It was the woman.

—Pleasure to meet you, subject. I'm Emma, The Man Of High Society...

All I had ever felt was cold—never sadness, compassion, pain, or joy. That coldness was always accompanied by an emptiness. An emptiness that couldn't be filled. Over time, I learned to ignore it. I was on the path to becoming a complete killing machine—if not for his return one day. With him came a question: "Why?" I couldn't answer. I had no purpose—no humanity. To be human is to act, and to act is to be human. But what was I doing? If I could do anything... would that constant cold vanish, and with it, the void in my soul? That day, I decided to have a purpose—to become the one at the top. And I would fulfill it. No matter the cost. No matter who I had to kill, torture, or mutilate—I was willing to do anything to move even a quarter-step closer to my goal.

—...and I have an offer for you: your journey ends here, and I explode all your hearts and brain—and it's all over. Or, you join me in this war. What will it be, Mr. Y.K.?

-Y.K.
