Chapter 182 - Chapter 182: Garfield Spider-Man

In Manhattan at night, little had changed.

Beneath the calm surface, countless construction workers moved with urgency, communicating through walkie-talkies. Their motions, though subtle, were filled with strength and resolve.

"All cranes on Sixth Avenue, extend your booms over the street!" a commanding voice barked through the comms.

"Cantilever at ninety degrees!"

"Align the booms to give Spider-Man a clear route!"

"Let's help him!"

In this moment, they were no longer just blue-collar workers—they had become Spider-Man's unsung allies, using their own strength to carve out a path for him.

All across the avenue, crane operators began scaling the machinery without hesitation, undeterred by the height or risk, united in their effort to create a safe route for the wounded hero.

Soon, cranes across the city began moving.

Their metal arms sliced through the night sky like a mechanical ballet, dancing silently for their city's protector.

At the same time, Spider-Man—Peter Parker—lay on the rooftop of a tall building, pale and struggling for breath.

A bullet had torn through his thigh, and the pain was nearly unbearable.

But his eyes burned with unshaken determination. He couldn't give up. Not now.

Just as Peter was about to falter, he looked up—and was met with a stunning sight.

Cranes from every direction slowly came to life, their booms stretching out like bridges in the night, overlapping like light rails in the air, pointing him forward.

The sight struck Peter deeply. He felt gratitude well up in his chest.

The people of this city still believed in him. They hadn't turned their backs on Spider-Man.

He wasn't alone.

Slowly, Peter stood and shot webbing around his wounded thigh to compress the injury and dull the pain.

He couldn't fall here. Too many people were depending on him.

Despite the searing pain, he began to run.

His steps picked up speed until he was moving at full pace—faster than anyone would expect from a man with a bullet in his leg.

With a sprinting leap, he jumped off the roof and launched a web line.

But this time, the web missed the crane arm.

Peter's heart dropped. He braced for impact.

At the last second, another crane arm swung into place. Without thinking, he latched onto it and pulled himself up.

Reinvigorated, Peter hurled another web, swinging from one crane to the next.

His movements sharpened—graceful, precise. As if this scenario had played out in a dream before.

And then, finally, he reached the Lizard.

Facing the monstrous creature, Peter felt no fear.

He knew he had to stop this threat. No matter what.

The Lizard had already begun the final phase of his plan.

He inserted the serum into a dispersal device. A mechanical voice echoed: "Initializing Ghana Device."

"Countdown initiated. Detonation in two minutes."

Once the countdown ended, the device would release a gas that would mutate everyone in the city into reptilian hybrids.

Peter heard the announcement. He launched a webline, kicking the Lizard hard and sending both of them crashing onto the rooftop of Oscorp Tower.

He turned to disable the device—but the Lizard grabbed him and hurled him from the building.

Midair, Peter twisted his body and fired a web back toward the tower.

The battle resumed—fierce and fast.

Peter used every bit of his martial skill and agility, but a momentary slip allowed the Lizard to land a devastating blow, crushing one of his web-shooters.

The Lizard sneered, voice dripping with venom. "No mother. No father. No uncle. You're nothing but a lonely, broken boy."

Suddenly, Gwen Stacy's father—Captain George Stacy—arrived and fired at a nearby liquid nitrogen pipe, causing it to burst.

Peter took advantage, snatching a broken pipe and turning it on the Lizard.

With George's cover fire, the creature was momentarily stunned.

George tossed the antidote to Peter. "Go! Get it to the tower!"

Peter caught it, nodding with grim appreciation.

He couldn't fail. This antidote was the city's only hope.

. . . . . . . .

Elsewhere in the multiverse, Alex Ray materialized into this reality.

He muttered to himself, "I wonder if this is Garfield's Spider-Man universe…"

The thought lingered. He was eager to find out.

Then, in a low voice, he whispered, "On my right."

In response, two figures appeared beside him—summoned like phantoms from memory.

They were none other than Tobey Maguire's Peter Parker and Harry Osborn.

When Alex had first suggested venturing into parallel universes—specifically those where other Spider-Men existed—these two had insisted on coming along.

They pleaded, nagged, and guilt-tripped him until he gave in.

Alex still felt a little bad about not involving them in the last major battle in Hell's Kitchen. Taking them along this time felt like the least he could do.

Besides, the Spider-Man universes weren't particularly dangerous—not compared to the hellscape they'd previously faced.

It was a decent opportunity for them to gain experience.

And maybe, just maybe, watching different Spider-Men interact would be... interesting.

Tobey and Harry surveyed the environment with wide eyes.

Though they had lived in Alex's universe before, they'd been confined mostly to the Good Luck Restaurant and its surrounding block.

This was their first time stepping into a different world altogether.

Harry squinted at the city skyline and grumbled, "Doesn't look all that different…"

He'd expected some kind of radical shift in architecture or color, not just another version of New York.

Tobey didn't say a word, but the mild disappointment in his eyes said enough.

They had hoped for something new, something alien. This looked too familiar.

Alex glanced at them and sighed. He understood their reactions.

But this wasn't a sightseeing tour.

They were here for a mission—to learn, to grow.

"Cut the chatter," Alex said bluntly. "We need to figure out what major event is happening in this world. I didn't bring you here for a vacation."

That snapped them out of it.

Harry and Tobey exchanged glances and quickly scattered to gather intel.

Meanwhile, Alex shot into the sky, hovering above the city as he closed his eyes.

Using Observation Haki, he began to search—for Peter Parker.
