The tunnel's stale air hung heavy as the crew regrouped, breaths ragged and bodies bruised. Julian pressed his hand against a fresh cut along his temple, the sting grounding him in the chaos.
"We pushed Lucian back," Eve said, voice steady but eyes wary. "But he knows we're coming for him now."
Carter nodded, staring at the encrypted Nexus core. "The data's safe, but it's volatile. If it leaks, governments will collapse. We need to be ready for every move he makes."
Reese cracked his knuckles, smirking despite the tension. "Let him try. We're ready."
Julian's gaze drifted to the damaged comms unit. "This isn't just a fight for survival anymore. It's a war for control of the truth — and it's going to get messier before it gets better."
Eve crouched beside the exit tunnel, listening. "We've been underground too long. We need allies."
Max's sacrifice echoed in Julian's mind. Trust had been broken before — but this was different. They couldn't do this alone.
"We reach out," Julian said slowly. "To anyone willing to stand against Lucian. We build a network — shadows within shadows."
Carter smirked. "A resistance."
Julian looked at his team, feeling the weight of leadership settle on his shoulders. "Then that's exactly what we become."
Outside, the city lights flickered under a night sky filled with uncertainty.
Lucian was still out there — watching, waiting, plotting his next move.
But this time, D7 wouldn't just be running.
They would strike back.
