At first it was little difficult but later he was able to do it very eaily as it was a second nature to him. Second step was to manipulate river of lake which he tried practiced for almost 2 months and only then he was able to make wave in water.
If it weren't for the use of ox seal he would have wanted to act like water bender. Last step is to make water from his own chakra.
Well it is most difficult thing for Haru to do. But after 3 months of training he can make enough water to perform a c-rank ninjustu.But Haru was not discouraged because as he grows up he would even be able to rival a certain 'evil senju' in water style.
Haru was only able to do this quickly because of ice release because to use ice release at anytime you must have active water source or make water from your own chakra to make ice.
And the result of these two training sessions was that his ice release was ore durable and he can make ice even away from water source although right now je could only make some senbons or kunai at best
So his guess was correct that mastering wind and water chakra nature will lead to qualitative and quantitative improvement in ice release.
He had almost reach the max potential that a six year old boy can reach,because after his grandmother's death he just practiced taijustu and shurikenjutsu..Just in ninjutsu he might rival special jounin and his chakra level is also higher then other people.
Now he was thinking to focus on Fire style, you can ask why not taijustu or kenjutsu, the answer is simple he can't improve any further in these two aspects because of his age so he was trying to focus on remaining three chakra nature before he reaches age of 10 because after that he could use remaining time to strengthen his taijutsu and kenjutsu.
For example, fire escape, great fireball technique.
Before Haru awakened Ice Release, his prominent chakra nature was fire chakra. When his grandmother was alive, she used chakra paper to test him.
With fire chakra, it shouldn't be too difficult for him to learn Fire Release: Great Fireball Technique.
