Chapter 4 - Hunting

After finishing up the story of the old woman, I began making the next avatar. Unlike the previous avatar, this one wasn't human, but a giant wolf.

It had grey fur and weighed more than 320 pounds (145 KG). It was made of mostly muscle, and its height was nearly at the shoulder of an adult male. The fangs were sharper than blades, and the bite force was stronger than that of a tiger.

By all definitions, this wasn't a normal wolf. It was stronger, faster, and more cunning than a tiger. And what's more, I planned to control the wolf myself.

I quickly asked Mobius to me enter the body. As I controlled the wolf, I asked Mobius to show me my stats.

[Name: Grey Wolf (Loki Bard)

Age: 5 (19)

Height: 5'5

Sex: Male

Title: The Big Bad Wolf

(Level: 0)

Potential: D-

Health: 31

Strength: 28

Energy (Universal): 0

Speed: 20

Intelligence: 4 (16)

Equipment: None.]

I smirked in the body I was in and finally finished the story I forged.

After I checked everything was done, I asked Mobius to scan the story, "Start scanning!"

[Appraising…

Story mode: E

Rewards that can be given to the quest taker:

1x Iron Card: 30,000 ryo.

1x Iron card: Granny's special recipe!

1x Bronze Card: Summoning Beast

Please pick 1!]

I thought about the options and spoke to myself, "Why does it even matter? I don't know these people…"

I was about to pick the money, until the system stopped me and explained, [The more impact you give, the more XP will be given, and more powerful cards given to you.]

"If that's the case…"

I had to think about this carefully. Although the summoning beast sounds great, the 30,000 ryo could also be of help to the villagers. Plus, I don't know what sort of summoning beast it would be. The same thing could also be said of the second option…

[Would you like to see the descriptions of these cards?] asked Mobius.

"Ah… Just the recipe and the summoning beast."

[Granny's special recipe! - A recipe for Kimchi that has been passed down for generations!

Stats given after eating: (+1 Int), (+3 Strength), and makes pooping easier. The stats will all disappear after full digestion.]

[Summoning beast! - The son of the Grey wolf. Will grow stronger than its father!]

Although the summoning beast still sounds great, if the wolf can't use chakra in the future, it'll be utterly useless against ninjas. On the other hand, the recipe is great for the village, it'll make hard labor easier.

"But then again, protection… Arghhh! Whatever!"

In the end, I chose the summoning beast for the villagers.

Koto Jun POV

I'm Koto Jun, a chunin of Konoha, and I've been guarding this small village for about a month now. I was sent here to guard as a mission because there was a missing nin around the area, just a chunin, but it was enough to scare the villagers into hiring a ninja. Although I'm also a chunin, I'm a veteran, as I've been a ninja for 10 years now.

The people here are nice, but everything got boring very fast when it reached the 5th day. I couldn't really help with the farm as I was busy guarding the place. However, recently, a village girl named Jaya has been keeping me company, talking to me, and playing games with me whenever I was bored.

"Hmm… where is Jaya? She would usually be here by now…"

As I pondered to myself, I suddenly tensed up when I saw someone running towards me covered in blood.

When I took a closer look… "Jaya!"

I quickly dashed towards Jaya and held her as she fell from exhaustion, "What the hell happened?! Are you injured?!"

As I checked for injuries, Jaya quickly stopped me, "No! It's not my blood! But there's someone severely injured at the village town hall! Please go help them!"

Seeing that she was fine, I took a sigh of relief and carried her to the village town hall.

Stepping inside, I instantly smelled blood. Instinctively, I tensed up, but when I saw an old woman full of claw marks, my heart sank.

The old woman was dying, and I knew I couldn't do anything to save her. But what made my heart sink was the claw marks themselves. The only real threat in the forest are wolfs, nothing else and guessing from the shape of the claw marks, it was made by a wolf. But they were way too big to be normal wolf marks, and the shape didn't remind him of a ninja's work.

"Come, Koto, help this lady!" asked the village chief.

I sighed to myself and thought, 'What do you want me to do, old man? I'm not a medic nin…'

I couldn't blame them, they were all good people and would stop at nothing to help someone in need, and they haven't seen the cruelty of the ninja world…

I shook my head and said, "I'm sorry, village chief, I can't do much here. The best I can do is slow down her bleeding, but she's already lost too much blood and would most likely die in a few minutes."

My words made the room gloomy, but they all understood.

The best I could do for the old lady was to ease her pain, and so I planned to. But as soon as I got close, the old lady spoke, "Y-You're a ninja, are you not?"

With a nod, I answered her, "Yes, ma'am."

"Please… Scout the area… There is currently a wolf surrounding the village, ready to kill humans. It's… It's bigger…"

Before she could finish her last words, she took her last breath with a face full of struggle. The room turned quiet while I just sighed once more.

I turned to the village chief and said, "Please tell everyone to stay at the basement of the town hall. From the looks of it, this wolf is rather big, bigger than a lion. It could be dangerous, especially for the children. What's more, there's a missing nin roaming around."

The village chief quickly understood and gave out orders. And after an hour, all of the villagers went inside the basement.

I stretched and said, "Time to go hunting."
