Chapter 5 - History of Dust: V

In a nutshell, the Black Queen is an immortal magi who was cursed by the divine spirits of this world, and commands the Grimm, which seek to annihilate mankind.

Oz is an unwilling bodystealing wizard, also immortal but in a different way, and has been tasked by the same divine spirits who cursed the Black Queen with immortality with killing her and saving mankind.

Looks like no matter what world, gods are some bitch ass mother fuckers.

Like, the fuck you mean you sent a magi to kill a fellow IMMORTAL magi with the power to control demonic beasts? Might as well make him wear a dress and sing Let It Go for the rest of his existence!

I click my tongue and set the documents aside. In the name of the Root, I knew divine spirits were assholes back home but this is basically torture for a random ass man.

Wait, immortal magi… They might have some ideas on the Second True Magic! After all, they did originate from whatever counts as the Age of Gods in this world.

New leads on how to find my way home, aquired!

… Why the fuck are the Kaleidogems glowing…

[Line break]

The Kaleidogems apparently had a subspace pocket inside. And a timer to automatically release everything when it's not activated.

I guess Marshall Zelretch spares no expenses for his students. But couldn't it have been a bit more subtle or gentle? I was literally thrown into the wall when the Kaleidogems released everything in the pockets.

Wait, this is a great thing! Now I can study the Kaleidoscope in greater detail! Maybe even reverse engineer a way home!

Gotta clean up everything, though. And hope to Akasha none of them are booby trapped.

Is that a glowing ruby-

Half of the papers was instantly disintegrated by a fireball. I barely managed to convince the manager that this was just an isolated incident with some fire dust too. Now I gotta pay him double to get him off my back.

The papers left are either half burnt and barely legible, or stuff I do not have the knowledge to understand yet. This day was going so good too…

Nothing I can do now… Just gotta pray to the Root for luck, Root knows I'll need it.

Huh, there's a paper that's stuck on the ceiling fan… "Heroic Spirit Summoning Ritual"… Eh, maybe later. No idea who I might summon, so last resort.

[Line break]

"Watts, any updates on the magical energy burst?" For some reason, I can't help but think about that specific moment. A shockwave of magic echoed through the world, causing slight disturbances, so tiny one would've missed it if not experienced in the are of Magic.

Oz- No, the fake puppet must have sensed it too. No doubt with his resources he has already found the source, and if possible, is using it to supplement his defenses.

No matter, it'll be much more satisfying when I finally take down that faker, and the Brother Gods soon after.

"I'm afraid not, my Queen. Even after tapping the scrolls and other electronics near the site nothing is being picked up, nor is there any sign that our enemies have gotten anything from it." The mad scientist pushed his glasses back up. "Honestly, it's kind of infuriating."

"Infuriating that you're a poor excuse of a scientist, right?" Cinder smirked. "What kind of moron can't even find an origin of this magical energy burst? So inefficient."

I sighed as I knew that another squabble was about to break out. Maybe after killing the two deities I should try my hand at becoming a hermit? Sounds a lot more appealing then running a castle full of half fuctioning psychopaths.
